I've been there several times, always in no-crowded times where it’s possible find the relaxing atmosphere of the place. From the promontory of the “San Pietro Church” you can enjoy a beautiful landscape of the gulf and an amazing sunset.

The seaside town of Portovenere Italy is delightful and picturesque. Wish we had stayed more than two nights.

We came here by ferry from Cinque Terre after other travelers told us it was a hidden gem. The ferry takes 30 minutes from Riomaggiore and gives spectacular views of the coastline as well as the harbor entrance to Portovenere. Portovenere is a jewel of...More

Hi Kitty, we were there in late March and unfortunately a week early before the "season" opened. We researched up and down the port of La Spezia and found that in season there are not only the ferries that take you up and... More

Debby Not as far as I know. You could hike to riomaggio but that would be a loooong way. Would say portovenere is a side trip, different from cinque terre.
