A park with lots to offer
May 2019 • Couples
My wife and I rented a car in Fondi where we have been staying and explored Circeo National Park over two days. We are happy we did.
I had downloaded quite a bit of information from the park website, much of it in English, so we had some idea where we wanted to go. There are four habitats: the mountainous promontory where the town of San Felice Circe is located; an extensive wetland forest, a remnant of the Pontine marshes drained and turn into agricultural land in the 1930s; four coastal lagoons; and a sand dune system that runs 22-kilometers from the promontory.
We began by visiting the pro loco in San Felipe Circe, where we got helpful advice about the trails. We then drove up to a parking lot with a small cafe where several trails began. The trails are in good shape and are well marked. The view from the ridge trail is wonderful.
We then drove to Sabaudia and the park headquarters where a staff member gave us additional information. We decided to drive to the Circe forest at Capo d’Omo and walk through the forest to a picnic area on the other side. The trail was clear and well maintained, about two kilometers in all. We had the picnic area to ourselves for a nice lunch. The forest is a wonderful reminder of how rich lowlands can be.
The next morning we drove to the east end of Caprolacce Lake, where we managed to see some shorebirds, although most seem to have moved on already. We then drove the road on the dunes to Foce della Lavorazione, where the road ends and a trail begins, which runs for another couple of kilometers on the dune. We decided to walk the beach for quite a while. Our only companions were a few surf fishermen and people wading hip-deep collecting clams. Along the dune road, there are cafes at intervals.
The protection of the forest and the dune system, both of which are rarer and rarer habitats and wild spaces, is a great gift to all of us. In May, at least, the park is a great getaway to the natural world. And I haven’t even mentioned the historical sites within the park.

Peaceful Visit!
Apr 2018 • Friends
Our dear friend took us for a ride into the Italian countryside to visit this park, which was established in 1934. It occupies a strip of coastal land from Anzio to Terracina, including also a sector of forest in the mainland of San Felice Circeo, and the island of Zannone. It was a very peaceful and tranquil park with commanding views.

Bee Eaters
Jul 2017 • Solo
I went to the visitor centre but gave it a miss as it looked like a country park. I confess now that I prefer my nature in the raw. There's a good lot of rolling arable land behind the Sabaudia coast that offers pretty good birding opportunities. I was lucky enough to see quite a large group of bee-eaters much to my delight.

Lovely place with amazing views
Aug 2016 • Family
We stayed on the south side in Faro, near San Felice Circeo. A great place and impressive setting, some great views in all directions also. Some minor roads are better for 4x4's but some great exploring opportunities. Caves to visit on the south side and great beaches close by. The mountain and park itself is very scenic and well worth a visit.

Refreshing shade in natrual forest.
Aug 2015 • Family
The park has many parts where the Cesarella visitor centre in the central forest hosts both deer and wild boar. The animals are not very well kept but it's fun for the kids to look at. There are some picnic tables under the large pine trees that provides a refreshing shade also on a hot summer day.

If you like mosquitos biting your legs and no sense paths: here's
Jul 2013 • Couples
I cross the main road who sourrends "Parco Nazionale del Circeo" many times during last years,
its a fresh and amazing road very small, from Bella Farnia leads to Sabaudia town.
Just on the lefts, those incredible forest, dark and similar to "the village" movie;
finally me and my girl decided to discover it! We said: today no beach, lets go there.
We went to the main entrance of the park: we didnt know where to park, no park space.
Then we tried..I took our bikes with us, came in and start to ride inside..
Tons of mosquitos, and other insects followed us for all the two hours trip..after one km, another path on the lefts: a small bridge on wood, very old and dangerous, the bike couldnt walk in the path: a big part of a tree was there.
We tried to go forward..on the path: some signals really old and not clean, the informations were NOT made, we didnt know where to go, the weather was hot and humid, and we reached the other side of the park.
There, worst: a old old gate, quiet damaged..on the right some benches in the wood...damaged too..the toilets with a paper on it "Closed"..a guy inside his old car with a blonde girl looked to us..maybe they were smoking hash because seemed to be worried.
We were in "resident evil" scene, I change direction, we came back to the main entrance and leave it fastly with my car.

A big draw in Sabaudia.

Lots of traffic, but also lots of Sunday cyclists. The weekend we were there, there were also many many mushroom seekers. Visitors should be aware that parking requires the purchase of a ticket from a machine along the road.

One of the best places to stay in Italy. Wonderful beaches, lakes, mountains, islands and dunas... perfect if you love wild nature and a calm place to stay not so far from Rome.
