As we were unlucky with the weather and could not wait long enough at the summit to wait for the clouds to clear off, we'll have to come back. This time, we'll take the ferry and stay on the island overnight, in order to take...More
We hiked stromboli yesterday with Manuel as our guide. He was fantastic. Was very knowledgeable about the area and you could see his passion for all things Strómboli.
We were lucky enough to go on the harder/longer route which gave us a view of the...More
We had a great experience with Magmatrek. The guide, an electrical engineer who also guides at Etna, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about everything volcanic, and he kept a nice and slow pace for the group. The trip might not be for everyone, but we are...More
In the beginning, I was not sure about doing this tour since my girlfriend was a bit afraid of the long way up. We decided to do it anyway and it was the right decision. The way up was a bit exhausting but feasible. The...More
A challenging but achievable trek for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, a long climb in the July sun but an easy descent down the sand dunes! Well organised and efficient company. I would highly recommend them.
Although we were 45 min late (because of a postponed ferry from Milazzo) the MagmaTrek team waited for us (we booked a 20 persons night trecking tour to the vulcano; 28 Euro per person - perfect price/performance ratio!) and was overly helpful and friendly.
We started out with not much expectation of seeing anything due to the cloudy weather but our fab guide - Lorenzo said we had one chance when the sun set and the temperature drops we may see into the crater, this did happen and we...More
We had a group of family and friends do the volcano trek and viewing in June. It is not an easy trek and we were so lucky to get Manuel! He is a native of Stromboli and full of knowledge about volcanoes, has passion and...More
We had the pleasure to attend to Magmatrek’s hike up Stromboli, and it was wonderful! Our guide, Manuel, grew up on this island, and had so much knowledge about both the volcano and it’s geophysics, and the island and life here. He gave us lots...More
For the Stromboli tour we lucked out and the weather was perfect. There are lots of people doing this tour so expect long line of people (ants) making their way up the hill. You will be rewarded at the top if the weather is good....More

Hi Helen. I did the hike to the summit yesterday. The hike up is about 3hrs and the descend 2. It's absolutely doable with kids if they are used to hiking. Just bring plenty of water and good protection against the sun. It can become bloody hot especially the first 1,5 hour. We went with magma trek and they start at 5pm. We were back in the village around 10.15pm. We had booked a tour from Lipari so boat was waiting for us. We arrived in Lipari just before midnight. I think you do best by Booking a hotel on Stromboli and take the ferry to milazzo the next day.
