Family visit with three kids (9, 7 and 3 years). Super activity for a rainy day. The caves a fun to run around in for the kids and quite spectacular. For adults it is very interesting to know into details about this part of Danish industrial history. For older kids it is interesting from an educational point of view. There... More

Never heard about Mønsted Kalkgrube - but after my visit here i will recommend other to go and see this place. There's so much history here. 8 degrees Celsius all year - so remember a jacket, you can easily spend 1-1½ hours inside. Don’t forget to see the video inside the Kalkgrube – it is very informative. The nature outside... More

Mønsted Kalkgrube can be translated to Mønsted Limestone Mine and has been so for over 1000 years. The museum (to the left after the ticket office) tells the story about limestone and chalk production and of the bats living in the mines (usually only hibernating during winter). The mine (to the right, accessible also by small train) is impressive and... More

Have been here a few times and enjoyed every time. Place gives a good history lesson and facts as well as showing the various technics. The caves are fun to explore and kids can use their torches to discover the various dark spots. Inside of the cave there is a storage for cheese. The cheese can be bought at the... More

Our Danish friends in Viborg took us to this place. It is very amazing place. You can see how Danish people got the lime stones for constructions in the past and you can have the information about the history of Denmark.

One would not imagine that such a place exists in the flat flat Denmark - but there it is. A hundreds of million years old calcium mine now converted into a sightseeing spot is worth a visit with or without children. A nice little 5-minute train transfer from the reception (after buying a ticket for about 10 Euros for adults),... More

I wish I were writing a blazing review, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed about this place. We went there with a baby, four able-bodied adults and two elderly family members. We knew the mine might not be so easy to navigate - but it was far worse than expected. In many places there was far too little light... More

After taking a little train into the mine, it is wonderful place to explore. They have a refreshing attitude to the usual "stick to the path" "one way only", letting you rome around as the whim takes you up steep paths and through low tunnels on 2 km of paths. You can even take your dog! Don't miss the Cheese... More

We visited the limestone caves in July and it was a great experience. The caves cover quite a big area and the paths are nicely lit. Great to view though we couldn't see any bats as it wasn't the season. There was a multimedia presentation inside the caves which is a must if you manage to be around the time... More
