The gardens cover a total of around 114 Rai or about 50 acres. They contain a number of different plant collections, but one of the highlights without doubt is the topiary, with all manner of animals and other shapes having been created by training the plants into the appropriate shapes. Some old Thai houses have been saved from destruction anfd moved to the gardens.
Given the size of the site, it is a good idea to hire bikes - minimal charge - to cycle around the site. Another great idea is to ask about the inclusive deals - a buffet style lunch and admission to the gardens for around Baht 150. The bargain of the week in my view.
This will not appeal to all, but if you need a quiet day away from Chiang Mai's temples, or a break from elephants, hill tribes, shopping and all the usual tourist activities, this is a great piece of Chiang Mai that most tourists don't get to see.

As we're staying in Chiang Mai for an extended time, visits to Tweechol are a regular activity - but we went there 3 times in the first month because its worth it!!
A lovely relaxing place of manicured gardens, with plants in the shape of dinosaurs, dolphins, elephants and the like. There is a bike rental, which is very affordable, the trails are easy to ride and its fun to explore. There's also the option of a golf buggy tour around if you're not feeling like a slow pedal around. There's a reasonable playground and lots of open space for running around. The labyrinth is a big favourite with our kids (bring mozzie repellant as they seem to like the shade in the bushes) The swimming pool is a very clean salt water one which I can never get my kids out of without bribes of ice cream! And there's paddle boats. Basically more activities than you really need to fill a day and have kids happy all in one immaculately tidy and well run location.
The restaurant has good food. On weekends they only do a buffet which finishes at 2pm, with reasonably varied fare (sushi, Thai food, something european). Tickets must be purchased on entry to the gardens. I prefer the a la carte menu during the week but the buffet is just fine.
Located about 10kms out of the city on the #118 on the way to Doi Saket along the Chiang Rai road, its easy to get to by car. If you're reliant on local transport as we were at first, go to Warorot Market and look for the YELLOW seang teauw stand (not the red ones - they won't take you there) next to the river near the flower part of the market. Ask for the ones going to Doi Saket and show the driver you want to get off at Tweechol (also called Horizon Resort as its the same entrance). They will stop at the entrance - the fare is around 15 baht per person. Coming back - just cross the road and wait until a yellow seang teauw comes along and flag it down - they seem to be very regular. They are all heading to Warorot markets so you can easily get back to where you started.

This botanical garden is one of the best places to visit throughout Thailand. It's very reasonably priced, stunningly beautiful all round and is a great place to learn about nature for all ages. There is a resort attached as well for overnight stays but the main attraction has to be the animals, flowers, plants and best of all, cycles for rent. There is a good sized pool to cool off in, even though some parts are quite shady, even cooler Chiang Mai gets very hot in March, April and May. There is a restaurant but rather poorly presented for foreign tastes, more for a Thai function hall and not really atmospheric but the park more than compensates for any culinary lapses. The pedalo boating lake is fun too and one can admire all the plant sculptures rather cleverly made dotted around the park too.
Highly recommended for nature lovers and a great place to spend at least half a day.

Jul 2016 • Business
We were here for the business meeting at Taweechol Garden for 2 days. As for a business meeting, going in and out of the place was necessary. So I imagined the place would be like any good hotel/resort place around Thailand.
But no. The method of transportation around this place is via a tram. The place to stay, place to eat and place for a conference are all separated scattering around the garden. I could not say that the garden and the view is calming and relaxing. But the only way to transport is via their tram was just ridiculous. The planning of the place is so confusing that you will really get sick by sitting in a tram swinging around the corner.
Not to mention that the tram service is not routinely. You will have to call the staff to have a pick-up yet again if there are so many users, there will definitely lack of tram service. So if you are in a hurry or need a practical place to hold a meeting or conference, try somewhere else. It was so frustrated for us that we drove our car into the parking lot, got on packed tram for 15 minutes to the meeting room in the middle of the forest, got in trams again and come back to the parking area for a lunch, then got on trams to the meeting room, then trams to the parking lot. This is where the awkward started. We have to take trams from the meeting rooms to the parking lot to get our car then we drive our car to the hotel where it is only 5 minutes away. Then the next morning a car to the parking lot and trams from the parking lot to the meeting room again. Just ridiculously frustrating and awkward.
The good side is the view along the road is really great!

Known as Horizon Village, there is a nice weekend lunch buffet which includes entry to the garden. An interesting museum inside, a mini zoo, and very nice sculptured gardens. Paddle boats available too.

We explored the gardens as we were guests in the hotel. Reduced staff due to Covid - 19 but they had managed to keep on top and the areas were maintained.
Worth a visit if you are in the area or stopping in the hotel

The garden is well maintained and everyday early in the morning I see a number of staff are working in the garden. The garden is kept very clean and with different zones that you can easily spend a day inside the garden.

we had heard about this place for swimming. its hot and we want to get out of town for a day. on arrival we find the pool isn't open as its been repaired after some earthquake damage. we are here lets look around. little dis we know we had stumbled unwittingly across this oasis.
should we hire bicycles???? A tad too hot for me, instead we hired a golf cart and driver. the gardens left us panting for more, they are beautiful and so well maintained. our driver was delightful and he paid special attention to our 5 year old when we got to the animals. this is a must visit when in Chiang Mai. its about 30 minutes out of town. The maze was fun to get lost in.
we have every intention of going for a midweek break to this place..
don't miss out on this one.

After we read the reviews in trip advisor my wife and I decided to go. The tour arranger at our hotel said it was nothing much to see but we hired our loyal tuk tuk guy and went anyway. It was great! We rented bikes and rode around the periphery 1st then picked our spots for a more in depth experience. all was very nice, quiet without a lot of people.
Beautifully manicured with some great rocks. The museum was small but had a few interesting things or see and the caretaker was nice and helpful. Definitely a place worth going to.
BTW, if you find an honest and reasonable tuktuks driver stick with them, get their phone
number and make potential arrangements. Ours was good because he would just
Listen to our requests and would not recommend all the other places to go where he gets the kick backs. Unusual for the typical tuktuk driver. His name is Mr Narong if you spot him check him out. Nice clean and a safe driver if you are conned with the safety of riding a 1/2 hour or so on the zippy vehicles.

We stay in Chiang Mai often and know that the city centre can get polluted and smoggy as the temperature starts to increase at the end of the cold season.
We were recommended Tweechol Gardens by a friend as a good half day trip which is easy to do independently. We picked up the yellow songthiew from the Warorot Market (the Nakhanping Bridge end). The cost was just 15bt and the friendly driver stopped at the Horizon Resort which forms part of the gardens (about 5 miles outside town heading to Doi Saket). We walked in where the security guard directed us to the entrance gate. Entrance fee was just 80bt and bike hire was just 30bt for 2 hours (plenty of time to taking a meandering ride around).
Lets get it straight here, we are overweight, not fit and don't use cycles at home but the easy cycles routes are great fun and thoughly worth a go! We spent our time cycling around (no hills or rough terain!!), enjoying the beauty of the gardens and the fresh air. There is an electric train which is no where near as much fun.
The restaurant serves great food at a reasonable price (we went midweek). There was a large swimming pool which visitors could use. After a few hours of walking & cycling, you simply exit the via the Horizon Resort, cross the road and flag down any passing yellow songthiew which seem to pass quite regularly back to the Warorot Market - easy!!

Can we pay the entrance fee and then rent bikes for the day to see the gardens?
Written 1 January 2017
You should be able to do that. While I was there there were many people coming in from the outside (not spending the night) and renting bikes to go around the gardens.
Written 9 February 2017
Is there an entrance fee? If so how much?
Written 18 November 2016
The entrance fee is 86 baht for adults, 43 for children. If you're staying at the resort, there is no entrance fee, it's included in your nightly costs. It's easy to google and find a link to the service fee page, you can also rent bicycles, electric carts, and paddle boats. A pool is also available for an additional fee.
