Messing about in boats

My children and their partners had a splendid day paddling around Brantome and getting sun tans. They loved it, so we did too!

Canoeing round the loop was fun and not too tiring - a great way to spend an hour or so with teenagers. Not falling in at the rapids was quite a challenge - especially with it being a big spectator sport.

Perfect, gentle river for children and families. Park in a big car park just past the main town where the canoe centre is. They are really helpful and launch you into the water. We chose just a one hour hire in the afternoon, perfect little tour around Brantome which is a large island I suppose. nice bridges and an abbey... More

We did the short hour run down the river to Brantome. We had two teenagers in one canoe and two with two adults and young children. We all enjoyed it even the weirs! As mentioned elsewhere, you do get wet and they are surf kayaks and have holes in the bottom as well as one of the weirs being like... More

We booked an 8 kilometers canoe trip for two couples. With hindsight, this was too long for 1st timers and would advise the shorter 4 kilometers first. We were on motorbikes and although company let us leave helmets behind the desk, there wasn't anywhere to change, so had to use the disguising public toilets. Once kited out with life jackets,... We did the one hour circuit as our youngest son (8) didn't want to do the big weir drop we'd seen when walking around. Turns out that is only on the longest route so we should have booked the 8km.....next time!! We were about an hour away but booked the 9:30am slot as that meant the water was quieter and... More

8km trip from Verneil to Brantome. You are taken by bus to Verneil and quickly out on the water. The current is slow although only a bit of paddling keeps you floating along. Watch out for the overhanging branches and shallow parts, but that adds to the fun. Weirs are not too much trouble.....the third one is just great! Anyone... More

14 euros per canoe ( seats 2).. a quick trip around Brantome well worth it.. need to book though in peal season... worth checking out how to traverse the weir beforehand.. ie.. watch from the bridges first...

We hired 3 canoes for an hour to enjoy the beautiful town of Brantome. For the hour hire you take a circuitous route around the town incorporating 2 weirs. It's a lot of fun and we thought good value. There are a variety of canoes on offer to suit all needs. The only negative was that they didn't take card... More

Canoeing around the little town of Brantome was fun, despite/because of having to negotiate a couple of weirs, and getting pretty wet in the process! The hire company seems to be family-run; exceptionally pleasant, helpful people.
