Visited the museum and the submarine. Very interesting to hear the history and experience what life in a sub must have been like. Plenty info in English. However didn't do the guided visit to the base as time limited. The museum gives a very good...More

Read books and watched programmes on subject, but the place still takes your breath away! If you want the English speaking tour make sure get there before 11.30! Really interesting tour of base, French submarine, museum and a great shop with some English language books....More

My friends and I were doing a five day tour of Brittany and the Loire Valley, taking in the tank museum and the submarine pens along the coast. On arrival at La Base, we were disappointed to find that we were unable to wander freely...More

The submarine was originally built by the Germans who had their U-boat headquarters in Lorient with bunkers that were impenetrable for allied bombs. The French confiscated the submarine and it served in the French Navy till 1997. Now it is a museum and a rather...More

This review is about the K3 Submarine Pens and not the submarine museum. At the time of our visit there was only one English speaking tour per day. However, they did lay on a special tour for our cuise ship. The tour was only about...More

Perfect way to spend a couple of hours if you like submarines. Don't be confused though. If you are expecting to learn all about German U Boats you will be very disappointed as the only real reference is a slide show and the pens themselves....More

Seriously though, the base is a unique building. U-boat pens for 30 submarines. For anyone that likes military history it's well worth visiting. You can go on a French sub (permanent dry dock), and the museum in the base is really interesting as well.

We visited the WW2 exhibition and submarine at K3. A lot of the exhibits are in French although there is an English language audio guide for the submarine. Overall it's worth visiting but be prepared to pay a little bit more than you expected!

My family and I had a great time at the submarine base! Everything was very easy to do and understand. The headsets in our language were great!

The highlight is the submarine whose cramped conditions, are a real eye opener . The film before is possibly style over substance but still quite enjoyable. The local cafe opposite the museum does a nice lager, coffee. Definitely worth an afternoon visit. We didn't book...More

There is an excellent audio guide in English which is clever enough to know when you have moved into each new room. I think tickets are available to buy on line but are easily bought from the ticket office where one of the... More

It's very hit and miss. We went from a cruise ship so they were prepared with English guided tours, but I've read other reviews that say there doesn't seem to be a set timetable of tours, or of times of opening. The only... More
