The distillery is fairly new but it has a rich history. It’s reachable by bus from St. Andrews. The guide was very knowledgable and answered questions in detail. I tasted 3 of their whisky during the tour all were tasted great. At the shop they also allowed me to taste other brands. They also have a restaurant offering freshly made pastries and a selection of cold and hot beverages. I recommend it for all whisky lovers or anyone who is keen on the distillery process.

We were a large group of 30 people. From the tour guide to the people working in the cafe, all were very pleasant and even made the 2 children in the group feel very welcome. The guided tour is well worth doing as it provides an insight not only in to how Kingsbarns Whisky is made but also the history to the distillery. Well worth the visit!

Excellent tour, displays and tasting experience! I left feeling educated about the process and warm inside from the tasting. The staff was welcoming, kind and very knowledgable. This was a very pleasing and comfortable setting entrenched in Scottish history. This was more than a distillery.
They have three very distinct whiskeys which they guide you to distinguish through the tasting experience. They also have a line of Gin. This was a beautiful and delightful distillery to visit.

The distillery is new and small but the visit is definitely worth it. Friendly staff, friendly guide and very much appreciated little attention for people who can not drink (everything): you can take what you did not drink during the tasting in small jars that will be provided to you

Fantastic tour today with Rene who provided a wealth of history and interesting stories about the development of Kingsbarns Distillery and explained the process of making the wonderful whisky and gins developed there. We very much enjoyed our tour and whisky tasting and would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. Looking forward to enjoying the Doocot whisky and Darnley Spiced gin when we get home!

Kingsbarns is a lovely modern distillery with friendly staff who are willing to go out of their way to give you the best experience. They do tours in both Whisky and Gin at affordable prices. If you don't get time to do both tours but wish to try before you buy they do allow you to sample if they have a bottle open. The Café serves tea and cake which is a good idea to sober up between the 2 tours. It is so calm even sitting out side the café having a cuppa listening to the birds on a summers day. The toilets are clean, modern and accessible. I always take my family and friends here for a day out when ever they visit.

Really friendly & helpful staff. A taste before you buy of the gins & whisky is brilliant. Selection of these increased since our last visit. We didn't take the tour on this particular visit but did purchase one of the new gins. The cafe has a nice range of items for a light bite or as we had a bigger bite of a cream tea which is a new addition. It had a good choice of filled rolls, lovely homemade haggis rolls, locally sourced light scones, cream & jam & very chocolaty rocky road. Just a nice amount & value for money. Well worth a visit even for the shop & cafe.

Kingsbarns, still considered "young" among distilleries, simply surprised us. Great staff, family atmosphere and the whiskeys, just great. We had a date where we were a very small group, almost a private tour. The small tasting afterwards convinced us to take one or two Kingsbarns with us. All in all, highly recommended.

Best whiskey tour we have been on. We went as a group and some having been on tours to other distilleries before and some new. The tour host, Dot, did an amazing job of explaining the history of the area, whiskey making process, and what makes Kingsbarns unique. Dot was clear and made sure all in the group understood throughout.
The cafe had a great selection of food, drinks, and snacks. The building and grounds were stunning, worth a visit in their own right.
All the staff were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Kingsbarns is a must do Distillery tour.

What a beautiful distillery. Kingsbarn is newer than most distilleries, and it is the only one close to St. Andrews. If you're making your way back I highly recommend. The tour was informative, the whisky was tasty, the surroundings were beautiful. They also have some fun art pieces for sell made out spent casks, and the cafe was a nice place to grab a bite, whether you like spirits or not.

Likely not as the tour takes you into the mash and still area and likely not considered sanitary to have a dog.
If you were to just do a tasting - which I recommend - you could probably have the dog with.

Hi,
I hope you enjoy your trip. Distillery choices depend on your spirits of choice. There are now many craft gin distilleries across the UK, but because you asked in the context of a Scotch whisky review, I will stick to those.
Distances & transport are the key deciding factors.
Speyside offers the highest concentration of well known single malt distilleries, and chose those you know and love (eg Glenfiddich). You will learn a great deal of new stuff & taste different varieties not generally available.
If peaty Islays are your preference (eg Ardbeg) then a trip to the island is in order. Otherwise, visit those you can include in your itinerary. Distances are very small compared with Oz, but roads much smaller & slower too.
My favourite distillery tour was Highland Park on Orkney before they opened a visitor centre. The tour was informal, led by distillery employees and ended with the most generous tasting session.
Enjoy your trip!

Is it possible to come by bus?
Written 8 February 2016
The Stagecoach service 95 (St Andrews to Leven or vice versa) passes the entrance to the distillery, then there is a short walk (200 yards or so, I would guess) down the track.
