Udine War Cemetery '45
Apr 2015 • Friends
Of the four military Cemeteries of Commonwealt fallen in '45 in Italy, one is in Udine (Tavagnacco, Adegliacco): "Udine Cimitery War 1939-1945". It houses 414 young soldiers for most English (317) but also 41 New Zealanders, 44 South Africans, 11 Australians. In Friuli, while retreating Germans, a special group climbed over the rear of the enemy and inflicted heavy losses despite being between two fires.
The Cemetery, whose land was donated by Italian citizens, is perfectly maintained at the expense of England and is in perfect condition as it was due to those young men who helped to liberate Italy and take it to a Republic of freedoms democratic everyone is proud of.
