Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past...

Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life.

Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history!

Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops.

Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!

Was in the Durham area so took a bus from Chester Le Street (about 20 mins) to Beamish. £29.00 for 1 adult and 2 children (with 25% discount) - we got this from hotel we stayed in but you also get the discount with a bus ticket. It is all mainly outside so we were lucky with a sunny day.... More

I can recommend this museum to anyone. It's a full day and more. We enjoyed the trams and the 1900's village the best but all the attractions are 1st class and the attention to detail is second to none. They will be building a 1950's village over the next few years so we will be returning to see that

Although this is a well presented living museum, going there at peak times means you spend the majority of your time queuing for tram/buses, so if you have mobility issues (as I have) avoid the children's holidays, as exhaustion will detract from any enjoyment of all aspects of this exceptional place

This is the second visit this year. The first with visiting grandchildren, who absolutely loved it and have already asked if they can go back next year. The second was with friends and we all found it so fascinating. The people in the houses and buildings were all truly amazing and brought the whole place alive, with their stories and... More

We went to Beamish as a school and we booked in advance but as a school its was quick to get through the queues however were not that long. You get a free annual pass if you pay once which can be good if you want to return but i would either offer that or lower the single entry price... More

First off this place is extremely expensive- £18 a ticket. Made worse by how poor the overall experience is: - a lot of staff are extremely rude and do not acknowledge you're there. Makes it really weird that they are just there if they don't educate or anything. - no signs on anything but the town hall to tell you... More

I love visiting Beamish! It's great for all the family and your year round ticket means you can enjoy it again and again. We also brought our puppy too and it makes for a great walk around the museum, although note dogs can't go inside buildings or upstairs on the tram. Fantastic full day, I can't wait to come back.

What an amazing day out, we spent 7 hours walking around looking at the spectacular old buildings, and hopping on and off the trams, stood 1 and a half queuing for Davys fish and chips lovely ! And finished on the Carousel horses before heading home

You need all day to do Beamish justice - a fabulous recreation of historic buildings and vehicles, all staff in period costume; an excellent day out, highly recommended
