An amazing Cathedral that deserves at least 2 hours of photos, and wandering and reading the info on the different building styles, Romantic vs Baroque and Gothic. Also, be sure to take a tour which right now is 10AM, 2PM and 3Pm. The tour we took was in German, so probably is the tour language, but if you speak the... More

Amazing churches and cathedrals are everywhere in this part of Germany but this one is just good, not incredible. It's still worth seeing for the Nativity altar by German woodcarving superstar Veit Stoß, the Bamberger Reiter statue and the tomb of Emperor Henry II. Photos allowed. Currently there is some scaffolding on the eastern towers and inside in the corners... More

I'm sure some people are into late Romanesque and early Gothic, but it's just not to my taste. Nevertheless very impressive. Apparently is used to be decorated and rich, but the Prince Bishop removed the valuables so that they could justify not supporting the starving populace!

Even if you are not a history freak you cannot help it being impressed by this wonderful building. It is a piece of history, and you should not miss to visit and take your time to view the interior.

This cathedral is an imposing sight with it's towers and provides great views over the city. Lots of cobblestones in a city which was fortunately untouched by WW II. A spectacular feature is the Bamberg Rider which is a life size sculpture that stands inside the cathedral. Its is said to be the first monumental equestrian statue and the first... More

The dom is visited on the town tour (for the English and app on your phone or device from info centre). Didn't spend much time here but the residence, courtyard and rose garden are very close by. Scaffolding on the towers at the time of visit, and some construction inside.

I like visiting churches and cathedrals on my travels. This one was interesting and had a few very faded medieval frescoes on pillars. It wasn't as spectacular as I expected it, though.

This is a must see if you are in Bamberg. This site is beautiful and has history ranging back to the year 1000. It is the seat of the archbishop of Bamberg. The most interesting period was around 1100- 1200 when the founder and his wife Empress Kunigunde were in prominence.. She is considered a saint for miracle of walking... More
