I was on a tour in German and even though I did not understand, the lady that did the tour was so interesting. You need to pay additional so you can take pictures-worth it. You will slip your feet into slippers to protect the floors as they are original. Very interesting as you see the transition of the ruling family in paintings and pictures. Since my German family is from this area, it was wonderful to spend time there.

Der Schloss has beautiful ground with water fountain and full of flowers and greenery views.
Sunday morning is closed and was not able to see inside but the souvenir shop was open and we got some stuff.
On our next visit, I´ll see to it we focus the inside´s and historical sights

I did a tour for the castle (you can ask at the information center what time the tours are) and it was a private tour since it was only me and the guide, they told everything for me in english (since im not german) and it was really really great. Its a great castle, not as big as some other famous ones, but still really beautiful in the inside

We visited Detmold on our way to Lemgo and unfortunately didn’t have the time to take a guided tour of this palace, which is prettily set in a wooden garden. After Schloss Neuhaus in Paderborn we were eager to see more examples of the so-called Weser Renaissance style. It’s no coincidence the Detmold Palade reminded us of Neuhaus because they were both designed by the same architect, Joerg Unkair, although Detmold was completed by others. Entering the courtyard, we could clearly see the palace is a four-winged construction arranged around an attractive courtyard with typical staircase towers in the corners. On a next visit we will definitely have a look inside

An interesting tour for everyone to really understand how life really was on these castles. The furniture is in place and in very good condition, a few rooms show some surprisingly rich wood work, there are some nice big tapestries from 18th century. When visiting, don't forget that the composer Johannes Brahms has visited this castle frequently. You may even see a little clavichord he used to play. I wouldn't say this is a "must", but is is a very nice program to do on a rainy day.

Yes, I stood there waiting for the tour... and at the end I was all alone. The guide gave me a private tour: sightseeing of some 'peculiar places'. Thank you my guide... but even for all of you: take the tour, it really's worth a lot!

you can easily miss this place if you don't explore the town.
we arrived just before 2 so we were able to go in.
4.50 entrance free is nothing.
wearing slippers to scoot around the floor was interesting and the rooms are kept in amazing condition.
its all in German but they hand English tourists a guide basically.
half the house is lived in by the prince so off limits.
the other half you will see.
a must see if in town.

This beautiful castle is located right across from the historic Landestheater. It is surrounded by a pretty public park, where I go almost everyday with my pooch. It is a pretty hot meeting place for Detmold doggies.

We only were able to walk round the outside on our trip but it was very interesting none the less. When open fully I suspect well worth a visit.
