We went on the night outing on snowshoes and sledding with a meal and visit to the Mayens tour in Crans-Montana. This was a very enjoyable experience, even though the conditions weren't perfect with the abnormally warm temperatures this winter. Our guide Etienne was really great. He is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The trek up the mountain on the snowshoes at night was great, very calm and peaceful. The history lesson into the Mayens and how the migrated up and down the mountain throughout the year was very interesting. At the top we enjoyed relaxing and some delicious fondue. The ride down on our own sleds was very fun despite the slushy conditions. Etienne was kind enough to give us a ride back into town too, going above and beyond. Know that the buses don't run at the time of night the excursion ends.

In short , a SCANDAL. Price of skipass has almost doubled over year but state of the pistes , hardly ever groomed, are an insult. Restaurants are only open when the Suisse are on holiday. It used to be such a nice station, now it’s just a cash machine. If they do not up their game fast there will be nobody interested in buying a Six Senses appartment for 8 mio CHF with this poor infrastructure.

Due to the Covid situation, we bought our ski tickes with an additional insurance in case we couldn't go. Indeed, our kids contracted Covid at school shortly before the vacation, but just early enough that we would have been able to go one day late. Unfortunately, my wife also contracted Covid, so she had to stay home. She called to ask about a refund for the ticket on a Friday. Answer: we can't help you, there is nobody here who can deal with this. Call again on Monday. When she called again on Monday, she was told she would get a refund "in a few months" - what kind of a bad joke is this? Also, she asked for a written confirmation by Email, and was told she would get the same day, but of course she didn't.

Add to this the absolutely decadent feeling of the place (SUVs, Gucci, Caviar, expensive watches, handbas for 1000s of $$$) with cars dominating all streets and this is for sure our last time here.

I used to live here for a while and in the beginning thought it was a bit boring place (I moved from Milan:) I quickly learned to appreciate and miss the beautiful views, clean air, correct people, silence, summer trekking tours and winter crystal clear snow.
During the high season there are few clubs open, and in summer a pleasant beach bar at the lake. Lot of restaurants too: from indian to thai/chinese or italian/lebanese. It’s a safe place, quiet, for families, town-escapes or romantic 5-star weekend.
