This place is where the Peak Railway trains used to be hauled up by chains. Very nostalgic but also a nice walk in the surrounding area.

This place is full of atmosphere: the winding engine and its ancillary equipment are beautifully maintained, and the visit is thoroughly enjoyable. It’s possible to walk around and watch the massive beams in motion, which is a real treat for people who are into industrial...More

Some really lovely walks to be had from here. The Tissington trail begins from this point (bike hire available). There is a great circular walk. If you feel fit, there is a good steep descent towards Cromford.

This is a great spot to start a walk or bike ride. We'd brought our own bikes so it didn't matter that the hire shop was shut. However, it was colder than anticipated. The woman in the cafe offered my son her jacket. We didn't...More
