Fascinating historic site that is well maintained and with some English information to give you a sense of the place. Nice place to enjoy the beauty away from the crowds. Bring a picnic to enjoy on the tables provided!

The incredible La Roche-aux-Fées is located in an out-of-the-way place called Essé, not too far from Vitre. It is supposedly regarded as Europe’s best-preserved dolmen. A neolithic grave, it is 19.5m-long, 6m wide and 4m high. They say the huge purplish stones were mined about...More

We didn't know what to expect but we were happily surprised when we got there. Had the place to ourselves other than a couple of French couples have a picnic in the lawn. The stones are massive and they are holding up equally massive stones....More

In Jersey, where I come from, we have quite a few dolmens, so it is with some confidence that I say this is as good as they come. And the free recorded introduction is a good extra.

This is amazing. It is free to get in, and as you drive down the small road with the Bulls and cows to the right, it seems to take you right back! We went on a cold foggy morning, and no one was around, so...More

This is an enormous dolmen. 19.5 metres in length 6m wide and 4m high, with gigantic stones totalling 500 tones. It lines up with the winter equinox and there is a model on the ground showing how it all happens. Well worth seeing.

We have visited all of the Carnac sites and now here as well. The Fairy Rocks at Roche are truly the better dolmens. They are giant Megalithes and it is like being at Stonehenge with all of the posts and lintels lining up against each...More

This is one of the most impressive megalithic sites in Brittany, with multiple series of megaliths / dolmens still standing from antiquity. You are free to walk around & explore. Has a short movie overview, in French. Now you don't have to make that long...More
