Overview
More
Located beside the suburbs of Kew and Fairfield, Yarra Bend Park is the largest area of natural bushland near the heart of Melbourne. The park has a rich Aboriginal history, and once included the locations of the Yarra Aboriginal Protectorate Station and the Merri Creek Aboriginal School. Explore the park by foot or by bike, go boating on the river and enjoy superb views of the city skyline. Pleasant picnic areas, barbecues, rotundas and playgrounds make it popular with families. Studley Park Boathouse offers visitors the opportunity to dine in the restaurant, relax over a lighter meal in the indoor/outdoor café, or have a light snack from the kiosk while enjoying sweeping views of the Yarra River and natural bushland. You can also hire row boats, canoes and kayaks from the oldest operating boathouse in Australia. The park's best known geological feature is Dights Falls. Dights Falls is an artificial weir built on a natural rock bar across the Yarra. The weir was built in the 1840s to provide water to the 'Ceres' flour mill, one of the first in Victoria. The falls were later to become known as Dights Falls after the owners of the mill. The Yarra Bend Golf Course provides picturesque views of the river and rocky cliffs. Well known as one of Melbourne's premier public courses for years, Yarra Bend features high quality greens and sculptured fairways.

I was there for a wedding which was lovely, but I felt, as a slightly disabled octogenarian, that public conveniences were few and far between and parking was very tight. Park is very popular for sporting events, cycling, walking, kayaking, rowing etc. and a wonderful...More

The Main Yarra Trail passes through the Yarra Bend Park and there is much for dog walkers, hikers, and cyclists here. The river provides a tranquil setting and public picnic/BBQ facilities are available in the South at the Loop. There are toilets spread through the...More

We loved exploring Yarra Bend Park. We did an easy 12 kms round trip hike following the Yarra starting at Studley Park boat house and heading North. We discovered Melbourne’s only Grey-headed flying fox colony at Bellbird picnic area. Was incredible to see so many...More

A well fenced, extremely large dog park. Plenty of paths, and lots of grassed areas for your dogs to run. Lots of parking and easy access. Water and little black bags available.

This is a remarkable piece of bushland so close to a large city. Shame the Yarra is so disgustingly dirty through this area. Plastic bags hanging from trees is not a good look - nor are the mounds of dog poo plastic bags dumped along...More

Love the history of the boat house area and the park has an amphitheater which is enjoyable. The park is lovely for a quiet picnic and also for exercising.
