We visited Elba on a cruise and were not disappointed. The walk to the Palazzini is fairly steep but takes you through the attractive bye-ways of Portoferraio with its many recently restored buildings. The Palazzini is perched in a spectacular position above the cliffs and provides a flavour of Napoleon's short time in "retirement" upon the Island. The House is... More

First, it took me ages to write this review becouse of the stupid name it is registered on tripadvisor: palazzina dei Mulini! Anybody looking for vila Mulini or vila Napoleon or even Museo Nazionale della Villa dei Mulini would not find any information on tripadvisor! Even the location is "Elba island", not "Portoferraio" ! Look at the language of the... More

We visited May 1st and as it was the first Sunday of the month, we were not charged an admission fee. Nice ! The house is quite large with on eclectic mix of furniture. It is well layer out. Only about 10 people are admitted at a time so be prepared to wait a reasonable length of time. The gardens... More

Due to bad weather elsewhere our sailing ship diverted to Elba and Portoferraio. I was thrilled as I have an interest in the history of Napoleon and Lord Nelson, and it`s quite a significant date because it`s 200 years exactly that he was defeated at Waterloo. Declining a visit to the lovely beach we walked through steep but picturesque cobbled... More

Could be a look better. Lovely views but building needs more care and attention to it. Gardens left to grow wild. Napoleons greenhouses left to decay. If this was in Britain, English Heritage or National Trust would be ploughing money in to get money out. No refreshments, no toilets, no guides, no postcards.

The villas interior is disappointing, but there are some fun pieces like a camp bed used by Napoleon, but the views from the building are stunning and the gardens are very beautiful and peaceful and for the entrance fee 5 euros is a must place to see if you love military history.

The Villa is nice and offers a stroll down the Napoleonic time in Portoferraio, but the best part is the garden. Beautiful view on the sea and lighthouse. Very quiet and peaceful.

Liked the atmosphere, the exhibits and the building itself. The fact that the whole place has a serene air of dusty neglect didn't really help, but the staff present, albeit grumbling about the "lack of maintenance" didn't seem to me to be very keen to carry out any strenuous cleaning activities themselves............
