Really good museum and it has really good displays and it is very interesting to read. The shop is a great place to find good fiction and nonfiction books on the wars NZ has been in. The only thing s the price, but it is worth the money to go in and see the displays.

Thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed your visit. The Museum is a Registered Charitable Trust and the revenue from admissions is put back into the museum to pay for exhibits, educational programmes and the care of the objects in our collection. We appreciate your support. More

While The National Army Museum is predominantly showing the European side of New Zealand's Military history there is quite a bit of Māori history I saw in the structure and the way the Army worked, If you can allow 3 or more hours to look listen and read the New Zealand Army's history it would be time well spent for... Don't order hot food from the cafe , it takes forever to get it. Stop here regularly while traveling and the cafe staff are always slow But the Museum is of a very high standard

Thanks for your comments and sorry to hear of your poor Cafe experience. The Cafe is an important part of our museum experience and whilst we outsource this function to a separate company we strive to work hard together to deliver an excellent product and service even through our busy times like the school holidays at the moment. We appreciate... More

I recommend you plan to stop at the National Army Museum in Waiouru on your drive through the centre of the North Island. The exhibits are engaging and it is very sobering to consider the hardship and deprivation that our defence personnel have endured to provide security and bring peace in troubled lands.

The staff were incredible - Knowledgable and friendly. Really good exhibits ranging from the Boer war, to WWI and WWII. Great array of equipment and exhibits to highlight what the brave NZ lads have been up to, throughout the past 100 years. Kiwis have been well thought of throughout history, quiet and humble but a great nation to have on... More

This is a great travel through time with the NZ Army, great displays and lots to learn. The new addition of the cafe and store are very nice.

Many travellers will pass through Waioru without planning to visit this fascinating museum. It has a clean and well managed cafe as well, so if you are on your travels it is worth dropping in for a flat white etc. However, it would be a mistake to stop at that! Try and allow at least a couple of hours to... More

I am a retired British Army officer and military historian. Thus I really wanted to visit. The museum is very well laid out, following a simple chronology. The complimentary maps made sense of this. The experience was, as it should be, humbling. Pertaining appropriately to centenarians there was appropriate focus on the First World War and Gallipoli. The only negative... More

Thanks for your kind words, one of our main functions is to be a memorial to all the men and women who have served and in many cases made the ultimate sacrifice. We will remember them. More
