Merri Creek trail provides a fascinating and varied view of inner Melbourne, And a great opportunity to get some gentle or vigorous exercise, depending on how you approach it. The creek is beautiful, and varies day to day, and season by season. The trail passes through bushland, grassland, and brushes past suburbia and industrial estates so is constantly interesting. The track... More

I walk here with and without the dogs and it's always a good stroll. You can easily loop around over the many bridges and walkways and there is a fantastic open area on the Yarra Bend side that's perfect for releasing the hounds. If you like you can extend all the way to boat house and beyond. A beautiful walk... More

If travelling from Melbourne CBD, take the 96 Tram to Brunswick, which, incidentally, runs all the way from St Kilda (another good spot for tourists). Hop off at Arthurton road and walk left along here until, at the bridge, walkers can scoot down and begin a lovely escape from the crowded city. The Merri Creek Trail stretches through the trees... If you like to discover a place by walking, this one is great. You can go as far as you like. I would start at CEREs and walk to Collingwood Children's farm or cross the Yarra at Cane's Bridge, take the nature loop and row a boat at Yarra Bend boat house. Alternatively, start in the city and walk to... More

Right outside our door is this great walking/cycling trail. Following the Merri Creek to Heidelberg and around through Yarra Bend park it has made trails or unmade paths that go on for miles. The other direction takes you to the Yarra river past Dights Falls and to the Collingwood children's farm and Convent Gallery with all the surrounding cafes.

The trail is great for cyclists and walkers. We often ride there and its really pleasant. Some of the signage could do with an update.

Many of Melbourne's smaller waterways have been turned into concrete drains, like the Moonee Valley Creek. Luckily, Merri Creek was spared, it's more or less like it was before white settlement. It's an enormous treasure to be able to get suburbia out of your head for a while while you enjoy the Creek.

The Merri Creek trail provides an opportunity to have a bush experience and yet be so close to Melbourne.

This area of the Merri Creek used to be a quarry, then a tip until the 1990's when a group of locals got together, cleaned it up, put in a trail and re-vegetated the area with native plants and grasses. An easy walk or cycle to connect a longer walk/ride from Dight's Falls to Clifton Hill and beyond.

The Merri Creek trail deserves to be more heavily used by travellers. What 40 years ago was a degraded, rubbish filled creek is now serene and full of birdlife and perhaps the odd platypus. The variety of native trees and shrubs planted is very good. Access is easy from Clifton Hill railway station, Merri railway station or numerous other stations,... More
