Mill street is full of interesting stores: antiques, toys, Lee Valley tools, books, high quality crafts(The General is not to be missed) and more basic items, kitchen store, and of course restaurants/bakery. In summer a pub overlooking the river is pleasant. The waterfalls are also feature. If you enjoy walking, the town has many interesting old buildings as well as... More

Quaint charming town with interesting architecture, winding main street, an old 'close', a beach, riverwalk, museums, lots of great shops and restaurants, great coffee shops, book shop, etc. Surprising amount of stuff for such a small place. Great town hall. Plan ahead and take in one of their great events. Home of Equator Coffee Roasters (with the flagship coffee shop),... More

Quaint Mill town for a day trip. Interesting shops with many antique shops.Scenic view of the Mill with river walk. Nice varied restaurants. Shop owners very friendly and helpful. Reminds me of Alora but in the eastern part of Ontario. Hummingbird chocolate is a must if you like dark chocolate. It is located in a store acrosss from the Independant... More

I went to Almonte/Mississippi Mills for a morning. The downtown area features historic buildings from the 1800s and the once-thriving textile business, as well a roaring river with numerous small falls. There is a self-guided walking tour that points out the old mills and buildings, as well as a self-guided walking tour for their rather short "riverwalk". There are nice... More

Almonte's a quaint small town with a history on the Mississippi. Not interested in shopping but just wandering around exploring the architecture, history of the town on the river and eating. Found a mountain bike trail from town out to Mill of Kintail Conservation Area where there are walking trails and a museum for R. Tait McKenzie and James Naismith,... More

Good stop over to get away from city life. One street town with shops, restaurants, galleries, clothing and gift shops. Nice walking area next to river with benches to have a picnic. Suprised by finding out the creator of basketball leaved near here. Statue in city center. Very relaxed surroundings during the week.

We briefly stopped by and walked the town as part of our cottage getaway in the Lanark Highlands. Very quiet town with a main street lined with antiques stores and small shops. Enjoyed tasty ice cream cones and sundaes by the green energy plant waterfalls. Took a picture with Dr. Naismith in the centre point. Nice town to stop by... More
