The volunteers who make up the Chesterfield Canal Trust have created a superb facility out of a derelict and semi-abandoned canal. Ideal as a cycle route from the centre of town and a way to access other trails. Visit and support this astonishing success story and join in the push to open up the last few miles in whatever way... From Tapton lock A pleasant walk on a summer evening or a nice brisk walk in winter. |There is always something of interest to see along the canal bank. Don't forget your camera. You will be surprised what photogenic ducks and creatures there are along the way. A good Hot drink is always welcome when you get back to Tapton... More

Lovely walk down this canal. Canal path is well maintained so you can walk all year round. There is a visitors center at tapton lock. There is the pub at Brimington and a cafe at hollingwood lock. Good for a 5/6 mile walk.

I love to walk along this canal in the winter, the towpath is level and although some bits get a bit muddy, if you have your walking boots on there is nothing too bad. There is always a little Kingfisher to be spotted near Mill green. It is kept beautifully by Derbyshire County Council and Chesterfield Canal Trust do a... More

A very beautiful part of chesterfield, on a bike or walking it really doesn't matter. This place is transforming and has had so much time and money invested in it. The hard work has paid off and it's not even complete yet. Looking forward to the new Waterside on the old Arnold Laver site...

We had a very nice cycle along the towpath of the canal from Poolsbrook to Chesterfield. A couple of nice cafes on the way. Really well signposted and good for walkers and cyclists to share.

A tea and coffee stop with a piece of homemade cake or sausage roll to sustain you as you walk along the canal . Cute little cafe with inside and outside seating , the outside has a little covered area so even if it's a little drizzly you're covered , Welcomes from the staff for everyone. Bicyclists and dog walkers... More

Having left Chesterfield for a lengthy walk along the Chesterfield Canal, it was a welcome sight to see The Hollingwood Hub. Our main reason to drop in was to get some refreshments & take a comfort break at Nona's Coffee Shop, which operates within the Hub, home of The Chesterfield Canal Trust. We enjoyed a tasty if a little expensive... More

Easy walk by the canal. We went on a guided walk during "Chesterfield walking week". Really enjoyed it. Came back by canal boat which has been restored with the help out local school children. There is a cafe at the start and free parking. Might even see an otter if you are lucky!

There has been a lot of time and effort put in to making the canal walk a pleasant one with a lovely little visitor centre at Tapton Lock which offers mini pleasure cruises in a narrow boat at the weekend. The stretch of the canal leads to Staveley and beyond and there are some lovely restored locks and stopping off... More
