Ripon Cathedral traces its history back to its foundation by St Wilfrid in 672AD. The Anglo-Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church remains and is open to visitors.

Choral evensong takes place Tuesday to Friday at 6pm and Sundays at 5.30pm. Details of all services may be found on our website.

We are open to visitors daily throughout the year and entry is free, though we rely on generous donations to continue this practice.

Most of the building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of the Library and the Anglo-Saxon crypt. There is a touch-screen computer interpretation of the crypt at ground level for those unable to access it.

We have found that when visiting a new area, there are two ways to find out a lot about it quickly - one is to visit the local Tourist Information centre and the other is to visit the main church or when there is one, the Cathedral. In this case we did both, but the Cathedral is a must see... More

If you are travelling nearby, it is always worth a detour into Ripon to see its splendid but small cathedral. Always a delight. I am not religious but love church architecture and this is a must-see for anyone who feels the same.

If you are interested in history and religious buildings this is a must visit. There is parking available nearby and the cathedral is very busy so sometimes all areas are not available but the ambiance is great.

A warm welcome on our arrival at the door, followed by a self-guided tour of the Church. Ancient monuments and burial tablets adorn the walls, and interesting history was gleaned from them. A fine organ was being played at the time which gave the place an extra special feel. Entrance to a small crypt is allowed.

Popped in for a brief look around and there was an orchestra tuning up for a concert that evening. Sat and listened for 10 minutes they sounded wonderful whilst we gazed at the church ceilings and stained glass.

Lovely quiet place, stunning inside and out, nothing fancy here in terms of extras, you wont find a cafe or toilets of gift shop, there also no cost to enter which is rare these days, so donate as you see fit.

Ripon Cathedral is well worth a visit, if only to see St Wilfrid's crypt. Park at Sainsbury's and walk through. If you are lucky enough to visit on a Sunday you may hear the excellent cathedral choir.

A quiet and peaceful ancient cathedral built in the 7th century, no one to bother you on a quiet look round. Unlike most cathedrals there is no charge to enter, which makes a pleasant change.
