Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

We enjoyed our self guided tour of the relatively few rooms open in the house and appreciated the extra information from the volunteer room guides. The setting of the house overlooking Bantry Bay is the star of the show and the gardens offer som stunning views. Well worth a visit of 1 to 2 hours and the prices are reasonable.

Enjoyed wondering the grounds for an hour. Unfortunately we arrived too late to enjoy the interior of the house. Maybe next time.

Fascinating Irish country house with fine gardens overlooking the sea. Still belongs to original family. Wonderful mood envelops the place.

Drive from Kenmare to Dublin via Bantry House. Well worth the time and effort in my opinion. The countryside was a delight and Bantry House gave a feel for what it was like in more prosperous times for previous generations. The grounds are lovely to wander through and wisteria in full bloom providing a beautiful setting. Wandering from the ruins... More

We had a very nice cuppa and cake in the tearoom here then went into the house for a visit. It was interesting, with enough information provided. Then came the highlight - a walk round the garden and the climb up the steps, whence the view across the bay was fabulous.

We were in Bantry House and Gardens on one of the warmest days of May. Lots or gardening and wood reclamation going on and the gardens were relaxing. didn't try the 100 steps up over the house but there was tranquillity and beauty all around, overlooking the bay.

Bantry House occupies an enviable site overlooking the sea, and once enjoyed a delightful Italianate terraced garden viewed from the rear of the house. Unfortunately the gardens have been neglected for many years and have been overgrown with self set Myrtles and other shrubs and trees. However the circular gardens immediately behind the back of the house have been restored... More

Bantry House is a very worthwhile trip if you´re in the West Cork area, the house itself is beautiful with lots of historic details & the gardens & views over the bay are fabulous. We happened to visit at the time of a music festival so were even able to listen to the musicians rehearse while on our tour of... More
