amazing . the area was beautiful. the plaques described the 'alter' its surroundings and its uses perfectly. I still can not believe you can touch a piece so old. it helps you connect with the with its history.

Next we came across Altar Wedge Tomb, a burial dolmen. This was unplanned for but interesting, with a great ocean view of Mizen Point. Stop here if you drive by.

Driving on the way to Mizen head we spotted the stop for Altar so we stopped there on the way back. It's a beautiful little spot where you can walk to the edge of the rocks and lookout over Toormore bay.

Of the bay are to be had from this site, plenty of park, and a short walk to the site. Any thing that old is definitely worth a look (whilst driving the WAW).

Picturesque spot well kept. Lovely coastal scenery accessible from the road strong footwear recommended after rain as can be slippery on the rocks and muddy underfoot

We visit regularly to take in the historic nature of this area. It stretches back several millenniums and gets us thinking about our heritage. A must visit for young people.
