This wedge tomb is situated in a gorgeous landscape. There is a car park just off the road and it is just a few steps to the tomb. For those who have driven the Dingle Peninsula, the scenery at Altar is similarly gorgeous.

So there you are, driving from Schull toward Mizen Head, and you see a little vista pull-off at the side of the road. "Altar? What altar?" you think to yourself. You get out of the car, stretch, and take in the view. Lovely. Then you...More

This 3500 year old tomb is easily accessible just off the car park in a lay-by by the main road, seems to be starting to collapse, great views of the Atlantic and the Mizen head from this location just meters from the sea

This is such a lovely little hidden away gem to visit if you are in the Schull area direction Goleen. I was indeed blown away by the dates that this landmark was erected. It's a lovely spot for a picnic on a sunny day. Recommended.

You can find many dolmens, wedge tombs and stone circles by looking at a survey map, but this on is very accessible and excellent for your first tomb.
