Worth the walk through the cow pasture

We took the short walk out to Hore Abbey and were glad we did, both for the views of the Rock of Cashel and for the beauty of the Abbey. And it's fun to walk through a cow pasture!

A nice walk or stretch of the leg down from Rock of Cashel. Great place to take photos. Walking through the roaming cows adds to the adventure.

I spent a few afternoons just reading or enjoying the view from this old building. Really a must if you visit the Rock. So close and yet so interesting.

From the Rock, you see this ruined abbey. Go through the gate and down the lane and across the road. Visit St. Mary Abbey (Hoare Abbey). Great views of the Rock of Cashel but clambering around in this ruin is fun, too!

We could see ruins from the top of the Rock of Cashel, and after tramping through a cow pasture we visited he ruins of this Augustinian monastery from the 11 th century. Well worth the hike!

The Abbey is a bit of a walk but so wonderful to spend time wandering through the rooms. There are signs to explain the layout of the building.

It's a short distance from the Rock. Just a stretch of the legs. In the middle of a pasture. No fee to see.

Prior to arriving I knew that I wanted to visit Hore Abbey but once we saw it from the Rock of Cashel I began to question whether I wanted to walk that far. Boy am I glad I did! You have a totally different experience exploring the Abbey up close. I very much enjoyed going about the grounds, admiring the... More

For the Rock of Cashel make sure you see the ruins of Hore Abby. There is no admittance fee and the remaining building is beautiful.

If you are looking for remote reuins that are actually in decent shape still---come to Hore Abbey. It is remote (visible from the Rock of Cashel above). We parked and walked to the grounds to explore. The only sad thing was glass from a broken bottle on the ground in one place.
