Fascinating 12th century Abbey, reminding us if we needed reminding that Ireland was once the Island of Saints and Scholars.

Not large can be done in a short stop. Old ruins and a nice view of the Rock of Cashel. Short distance from Rock of Cashel and can be done in the same day.

Steps from The Rock of Cashel in the valley below, just 10 minutes away. A very pleasant walk through open green fields with sheep around you. The ABBEY is deserted so you are on your own to explore and take in the energy that surrounds...More

I really enjoyed this place. Most people that visit the Rock of Cashel take the walk down to this ruin of a church. I actually enjoyed this place more than most of the functional churches we saw. You just walk around and begin to imagine...More

St Mary's Abbey or Hore Abbey is a small ecclesiastic ruin next to the Rock of Cashel. Most visiting the Rock of Cashel drive on by- we were alone in walking through it!- but I loved the respite from the huge crowd- and we took...More

If you're visiting Rock of Cashel, you really should plan on walking down the hill to also visit Hore Abey. It's not a long walk down the hill, but it did look like there was a small area for a few cars if you choose...More

From the heights of the Rock of Cashel you can look down upon this Abbey, but do yourself a favor and actually visit these ruins. Escape the crowds of “the Rock” and meander through these grounds. In the solitude of the cloister and church walls...More

Hore Abbey is just a short walk away from the rock. There is limited parking available also. No charge to visit. Nice quiet place with an impressive view of the nearby Rock of Cashel.

Although we did not walk over here from the Rock of Cashel, you could see it from there. Daunting from the Castle, can't imagine what is is up close. Have to do this next time.

There is not a parking lot. We just parked on the side of the road next to the gate. You have to walk through a cow pasture on a cement sidewalk to get there. It is well worth the time.
