My wife and I visited on Friday 21st April, we were very pleased with the museum and all the displays, etc. The WW1 trenches and 1916 areas were fantastic and I would recommend for school visits or a family day out. Only £5 admittance for each of us, my wife and I. Money well spent! A great wee cafe and... More

Interesting enough museum with many rooms and themes, but none richly furnished with artefacts, and very few unique items…. mostly from this century. We were rather disappointed by the WW1 trenches which, although well constructed are marred by badly placed obtrusive placards with explanations, and some really kitsch cut-outs. It is all far too neat and clean to appear realistic…... More

We enjoyed our visit. My husband was very interested in the Museum as he is from Cavan. I liked the gift shop.

This museum is a bit out of the way but well worth the ten minutes drive from Virginia or Cavan. Lots of educational material covering Irish history but also a really impressive mock up of ww2 trenches complete with sound effects. A fake gpo in the garden houses a 1916 exhibition. Playground.

The Museum is located in a large period house just up from the Church in Ballyjamesduff. The tree floors inside holds a wealth of Information on the County, GAA, Camogie, ICA, Farming, Local Land Lords, Irish Rebellion, WW1 to name but a few. The outside Garden has showcase of the GPO but what held me was the WW1 trenches. They... More

The museum itself does not seem to have changed a whole lot over the years which is to be expected for historical artefacts. The new WWI trenches are definitely worth a visit outside at the back in a separate field, it's clear a lot of work went into it. The board cut outs do detract from it a little for... More

Having visited many WW1 Museums throughout Europe the Trenches in Cavan and the displays on show inside make this one of the best Museums we have visited. As the Friends of the Somme Association our attention to detail can be critical but this was spot on. Well done to Savina and her team.

This museum has a lot of local tat. There are costumes from the earlier Pig House Museum. It is a good way to pass an hour if it is raining. We particularly enjoyed the World War I Trenches which were outside at the back of the building.

Heard about this quite by accident and decided to give it a go during our mini break to Ireland during half-term. Not only is the entrance fee exceptional value (12 Euro for a family ticket), everyone got a lot out of it. It's packed full of a diverse array of historical facts, many of which I (of Cavan extraction) was... More
