Excellent place to visit and hike or just to take a look if you don't want to hike as its a large impressive caldera full of trees and plants.
We opted to hike both the rim of the caldera and down to the bottom where there is short circular path. Each trail is around 3.5k. We are reasonably fit and they took around an hour apiece. Technically easy but lots of incline and decline on mainly loose ash/gravelly tracks. Great coastal views from the rim trail. The interior of the caldera is shaded unless the sun is overhead.
Handy cafe/restaurant at the start/end point. Parking is roadside.

You have to open your eyes to enjoy the sublime view and not slip on the stones. It is accessible by car with a small parking lot at the top or by bus.
You go down for 30 minutes. The view is as beautiful from above as from below. There are few shaded areas along the way and inside the crater there is little air and it is very hot. At the bottom you will find the ruins of an old building and swings, time to gain strength for the climb which is much more difficult. Remember to bring enough water. There is a bar and restaurant at the start of the hike. It's not a loop circuit, you have to go back and forth.

A small narrow road off the main road leads up to the top. It winds it's way up the hill to a reasonably sized car park. Up a few steps to ghe top.The cafe is still there but hasn't been open for quite a time. A street seller selling local wares and souvenirs doent intrude on the experience. The caldera is just below you, you can see the path round the rim but only the brave should attempt this and it's a lot further than you think. The scene over Las Palmas, about 7 km away is magnificent, you can see the port side and the lovely bay and beaches on the other. It can get a bit breezy here, so a jersey or light coat may be needed. What you do not want to meet however is one of the huge tourist coaches on a narrow section of road because he is not going to back up. Enjoy the view.

Plenty of walks here, but we wanted to just view the fantastic caldera. The main road around the rim has a pull in by a couple of cafés which is crowded, difficult to park & doesn't have the best views. Drive past this area to the golf club at the end. Park & enjoy the stunning view from this angle, then drive back & up the Pico de Bandana road to the viewpoint for a totally different angle. On your way down stop at the Caldera de Bandama restaurant for a delicious lunch & yet another fabby view, this time towards the sea.

It is easy to get down and really tough to get all the way back up again. It starts off with a pathway but quickly it disappears. Be careful when it's raining as it can be slippery.
As there is an old wine vineyard/distillery there it makes me think how they managed to get all the wine up haha. They do have a information board explaining the house there but not that part.
There are so many pretty flowers, green trees and other interesting plants. If you can I'd recommend a trip down to see everything there. Do explore most of it!
Unfortunately there are so many people carving names into the great tree there, such a shame to see.

The Caldera is very green and lush, even in January. Unfortunately we were on a coach trip so had no time to walk round the rim, which to be honest I’m not sure I could manage as it looks rugged and uneven. Well worth a look and photo. Watch out for traffic on road as there is a lot of it and the road is twisty with poor visibility - be careful.

The Bandama caldera can be reached via an easy road that allows you to reach an altitude of around 600 m. This altitude also has some widespread vegetation throughout the crater. It is therefore a rather vast concavity and can be visited entirely on comfortable paths. You can also visit Pico Bandama which presents a very beautiful panoramic view. The destination is recommended.

Narrow road to the summit. Watch out for locals and buses that drive in the middle of the road and don’t adhere to the speed limit. Lovely view from the top. Plenty of parking available on our visit. Fantastic view of the surroundings. No toilets at the top so plan ahead if taking children

Best approached by car but a bus is possible! A great contrast with the city of Las Palmas and the beach of Las Canteras. A rugged, raw view that reminds us what a miracle it is that manking has been able to civilize these volcanic islands. Awesome.

Amazing site. Visited as part of tour. One of the biggest and deepest volcano craters. (I've seen a few!). Interesting history and development including view of green pristine golf course looking out of place in topography.

Probably you can. There are tons of guided tours from any of the larger tourist spots. However, I’d recommend you hire a car and drive there yourself. Roads are good, and you have much more freedom then.

Is there a bus that goes up to the top? Or is there somewhere to get off at the bottom and walk up? I went on trip and they literally gave us 5 mins to take a pic! I want to spend more time there. I'm in Playa del Ingles

Bus 311 does not go to the top of the peak but goes past the turn off for the peak. It stops at a small bar/restaurant with a bodiga behind. If you walk anti-clockwise round the crater the walk comes out about half way up the road to the peak.

Yes, there is definitely one in front of the café/bar on the main road and also I am fairly sure that you can park at the golf club just round the back of the village on the edge of the caldera. Alternatively, use the excellent bus service which stops by the path leading to the caldera.
Written 20 July 2018
Yes, the 311 starts from bus stop Plaza de las Ranas located in the old town, close to the Mercado de Vegueta. It finishes in Bandama bus stop and then you have to climb up the Bandama Peak (c.a. 30 minutes). The Caldera is visible along this way.

Where was the starting point for you 2 hour walk? Were you on a cruise? Is the walk up hill or flat?
Written 15 December 2016
The starting point is the path leading down beside the café bar on the roadside. This takes you to a gate (the site is closed at night). There is then the choice of walking clockwise or anticlockwise from there round the rim of the old volcano (caldera) or down into the centre where there is a small farmstead in the bottom. The easiest path is to go to the right (anticlockwise); first you come to a view point. Then there are steps and steepish climbs up and down around the rim. Nothing is too difficult - I managed it as an unfit 69 year old! but allow two hours if you are slow, one hour if you are young and fit. Almost opposite the beginning of the walk, the rim is broader and you'll find many agaves, under which live some enormous lizards. They are fun to watch and not at all dangerous, though some are a good meter long.
