We took our 12 year old daughter here yesterday whilst staying at Swinton Park. First positive was the scenic drive over the moors to get there. We parked by the campsite which was good as nice to walk along the river/gorge as you approach the ticket office/cafe. I would strongly recommend wellies or decent walking boots with gatters for your... More

We visited How Stean Gorge in March 2017, for the "Big 5". I was a bit worried about what I had signed me and my partner up for, especially in March where there was the likelihood of snow, but I am so glad we did it. Tom was our instructor and he made us feel at ease and more importantly... More

Fun place to go with the family for a half day out. Nice people, decent cafe, very scenic gorge with historical interest. The children enjoyed working their way through Tom Taylor's Cave. My main concern is safety - we went on a wet day and the limestone was as slippery as ice. Despite wearing good quality walking boots and treading... More

Thank you for your review. Yes the limestone is slippery when wet. I am sorry you hit the deck. It is difficult to know what to do. The lime stone was quarried off where you slipped and is covered with fossils. The only way to prevent this would be to cover the surface. The steps going down do not have... More

Take your time. Get your camera out. Watch out for slippy bits! This is a magical place - don't rush and listen - Go through the cave/tunnel - take a torch or be daring in the dark And afterwards treat yourself to a cup of tea and a cake. Not suitable for disabled or very young, no pushchairs . And... More

Had a 2 night stay at the campsite and a gorge walk. Campsite is a decent size with excellent, clean facilities (toilets, showers and utility room) cafe and information centre is useful. The gorge walk is brilliant, you abseil down into the gorge from a bridge. Our guide, Stan, was brilliant. The walk took around an hour and a half.... More

Recently, I had a whole days adventure including gorge scrambling and caving! Thank you to Tom for an amazing experience! It was incredible and to be surrounded by friends and the beautiful surroundings made it complete! Would definitely come again and recommend to all but be prepared to get your hands dirty!

We visited with our 8 year old, just afternoon visit. Highly recommend, great fun exploring gorge and using wires etc to traverse below main path for adventurous. Cave was excellent, seperate etrance - exit in camping area. deep and narrow - had good torch. All enjoyed exploring - son and I liked look of canyoing and via ferrata.

A small group of us decided to go for some early winter camping and thought howsteen was close enough to us to go. It was the first time I have been here but not for my friends. The facility is brilliant with plenty of space, free to use fire pits and peace and quiet. 2 pubs are within a short... More
