The thing about glasses is, neither can you see well without them nor can you keep that trusty pair for too long, as your eyes may go in an unexplained direction -- whether near or far. That is why we need regular check-ups and the like. Buying glasses can be tedious and expensive, but this shop, Gene Optometrist, was very inexpensive and a real joy in terms of friendly service and attractive offerings. I made a booking the day prior, and, upon arrival, the doctor saw me immediately. After 15 minutes or so of reciting letters from a projected screen, my eye exam was complete, and it cost absolutely nothing. Free. Next, the doctor himself offered some advice on suitable frames given my face shape. The selection is attractive: predominantly well-known Western brands of the US and Europe, but also some modern designs from Japan and South Korea. We quickly narrowed choices to two frames; happily, I got the attractive, old-school pair made in France that look like they belong on “Harry Potter” or someone like him. Two days later, the glasses were ready, fitted with the highest quality German lenses you’d get back in the West. It was all simple and perfect. The total cost came to a fraction what we would expect to pay in the West. Moreover, there was absolutely no need for any medical insurance whatsoever – the price was transparent and a bargain. So, if you’re a medical tourist looking for good deals, Gene Optometrist in Penang is the place. Of course, you probably know the dentistry and medical check-ups here are also first rate and excellent value. Penang is great for medical tourism, you see.
