An interesting trip through the sugar making process

First of all, there is paid parking right outside in the Grote Markt, or on the side streets nearby. Easy to find a spot on Saturday afternoon. The museum only costs 2 Euros... read more

They are obviously trying to do a decent job but somehow it just does not really work. Interesting location specific audio system (various languages) which is too clunky. A lot of the info seems to date from 2005 so hopefully that will be updated too. Small museum shop not too impressive either. In the current state not really worth a... More

First of all, there is paid parking right outside in the Grote Markt, or on the side streets nearby. Easy to find a spot on Saturday afternoon. The museum only costs 2 Euros per person, which includes the audio guide. Well worth the money. Your tour takes you through the process of making sugar, especially from the local beet root.... More

The museum tells the story of sweeteners, starting with honey used during the Roman period till the modern non-sugar sweeteners that are being developed. As Tienen is the sugar capital of Belgium, it is an appropriate museum. Sadly, the information given was not too interesting, and the displays, when functioning, even less.

This museum tells the story of the production of sugar in the area around Tienen. Production steps from the beet harvest until the final product are explained quite well. Many of the used machines are shown. The story is told over an audioguide, which forces you to stay around one place (which requires a bit of patience at times). A... More

I went to visit it with 2 of my friends. It was interesting to see but no so much for children older than 12. It's interactive and has a modern touch. You get a headset (availible in Dutch, French, German or English) or children's headset (availible in Dutch or French) that is wirelessly connected to pieces of the roof. That... More

Small but very attractive museum in the hart of Tienen. This is the place to go to if you want to find out everything about sugar and sweets. Professor Zucchero, the virtual guide, has got an unique gift making it possible for people to become a molecule. That’s when something goes wrong: for no apparent reason the sugar loses its... This educational/family tour takes around +/-90 mins, so if you have the time take the time to enjoy it. Through it you will learn about why TIenen is called the Sugar City and how the sugar is made from sugarbeets and other forms. It is presented in a simple way understandable and enjoyable to all family members (7 years and... More
