Some really nice people volunteer - a chap from Sheffield really explained the magic of water pumping water. This is an industrial or even pre-industrial piece of cleverness - and the nice thing is you can work out what does what to what etc....

The pump house is nothing to do with drains (Thankfully) but is the original water wheel driven pump that supplied the Kennet & Avon canal. It has been lovingly restored by a knowledgable gang of volunteers and is open about 1 Saturday a month (see...More

If you are passing by and this is open then it is worth a visit. Not sure of the opening times so check if you are travelling.

Guided tour round old canal pumping station that is in the process of being restored proved very interesting - recommended for those with a mechanical bent

Was walking along the canal and decided to take a detour to visit. Very interesting to find out about the history of the pumping station and engineering required to keep the canals flowing.
