In the History Centre Dybbol Banke you step directly into the events of the dramatic war of 1864. You become be part of the drama and you will learn more about one of the most important battles in the Danish history. Experience history with all your senses: When you enter the territory, you will hear how the thunder of cannons is blended with the shouting and crying of injured soldiers. Go on your journey of exploration and find out, how a correct redoubt is built. Look into the barracks in the "soldiers' town" behind the front where the young and tired soldiers try to get some rest between the bloody battles. The war 1864 resulted in the disappearance of the multinational Danish nation state. Denmark developed into a national small state and got a part of Southern Jutland in form of Schleswig back. Prussia grew into the expanding German Empire which later sank and developed then into the Federal Republic Germany we know today. Therefore, the war in Dybbol is a central landmark in the European history. If you are ready to occupy the History Centre, then we are ready to offer you a very special adventure. Fascinating, entertaining, but also really serious.

it is a memorial point and very good presented - without thougt's of revenge, but made for an intense feeling of how this cruel times were...a masterpiece of a museum!

This is a reltively small museum but it has a number of interactive activities and it is a living museum in the sense that there are actors dressed in period costume who perform small historical episodes and demonstarte authentic tasks and activities of the period. There is a good movie explaining the war and a number of static displays. A... More

Not many people in Britain know about the battle of Dybbol, which took place during the second Schleswig War in 1864. The Danish lost to the Prussians and the Austrians, which had significant consequences; a) the Danish lost Schleswig-Holstein, and so became a tiny country of little consequence rather than the great power it had been at various times in... Am not easily bored while travelling but this museum managed to make me wonder how soon I could leave. Kept thinking that I must be missing something but nothing sparked any interest. It was quite expensive too, another mark against it.

This is a fairly small museum in Sonderborg. It offers two movies which explores the history of the museum. You make walk the battle grounds and enjoy docents in period clothing demonstrating tasks of that period. It has a cute gift shop with a variety of interesting items. It is in a beautiful location and across the street you can... More

It's a historical centre from the battles between the Danish and the Prussians. The intro film is Danish but there are headphones with the English text. The rest of the museum is more interesting in the high season and with children.

It's an interesting insight into a little known episode in European history, the Prussian victory in 1864 - where the 20th century started :). There's a good opening film which sets the context and lots of outdoor activities, which kids will enjoy. My only slight caveat would be that a lot of the exhibits are only labelled in Danish or...
