The recently restored abbey of Seckau is impressive, because of its size and elegant in its simple beauty. It is peaceful like abbeys should be. It is lifely, because it houses a gymnasium, so the sound of pupils was to be heard everywhere.

After climbing the green rolling hills to reach the (now) Benedictine monastery in Seckau, one is immediately impressed with the size of the structure. The actual abbey church is under extensive renovation and access is only by joining the tour.
The tour is well worth the small cost and time. It visits the chapel, refectory, old library and the former co-cathedral. While most tours are in German, our guide was able to also inform us in English.
The tour last a bit more than an hour. Included information deals with the lives of the monks, the history of the facility including its multiple functions and periods of abandonment.

If you have the opportunity to visit the little Austrian village of Seckau, you won't regret it. The Abby is an architectural delight and the town itself is so clean and quiet...just beautiful.

The Abtei is very large, and seeing the church is definitely worth your while. It is a bit dark and sombre, which adds to the atmosphere.

The Benedictine abbey with its attached school is definitely worth a visit. You should also take a look at the Angel Chapel.
