We had been told by a friend to come & see this, what an amazing thing. We had a English speaking guide who answered all our questions and was very informative. To think he was able to complete such a task!! Tight spaces as this is an old building.

After a visit to Leeuwarden we went to Franeker. Beautiful city in itself. The museum comprises 3 houses and is a bit of a maze but there are signs everywhere and it is interesting to see how different the houses are and even to be inside. The highlight is the ceiling with the planetarium and the explanation provided by the... More

What a great place. What a great story! Probably helps if you are interested in history and technology but should be good fun for big and small.

So many years ago since we visited this visitor attraction and this time they had many surprises in store! Expanded and modernised would be my main assessment. A new house was added which now houses the reception and ticketing. Explanations at set times are now also a feature which is helpful if you do not have a knowledgeable husband! The... More

Friends took us here, and I must admit I was a bit uncertain of what to expect. However, we had excellent commentary in English and I was blown away by this planetarium, which is still functioning extremely accurately well over 200 years later! (And what we enjoyed in the cafe was very good as well.)

I was there with my two boys. We liked most the planetary watch at the ceiling. It is fully mechanised by an incredible clockwork. Lots of details to be discovered and not really a traditional planetarium. This is a great place to spend a few hours.

A fantastic find in a small town. Definitely not to be missed. A wonderful insight into local history and the life of a local genius. To think this was created over two hundred years ago is amazing. Plenty of related exhibits here and a lovely licensed café for light meals, a coffee or refreshing beer afterwards. Not to missed.

This was absolutely a 'don't miss'! It was amazing to hear the story of why this man created a planetarium on the ceiling of his home. We laughed at first, thinking of traditional planetariums, until we saw and heard the history. His alignment of planets and how they are accurate to determine the current date is astounding. Being a computer... More

Such an amazing accomplishment for someone without a formal education. I was inspired by the fact that the planetarium has continued to be operational since it began in the 1700's. Our presentation about the room was also wonderful and in English!
