The Last Bastion of Natural Beauty in Provo
I have been going to Kimcha Village for a while now to escape the hustle and bustle of Providenciales. It is a simple establishment that captures the natural beauty of the Turks and Caicos Islands. There are articles written on the location which show photos for those who are interested. I whole heartedly recommend it for someone who is looking for a simple attraction without flash and flair. Its great for bird watching and relaxing. Also I am not sure if it is still there, but a disgruntled individual has paid people to review bomb this place in the past - I suggest you take any negative reviews with a grain of salt.

Don't miss Kimcha Village Bird Sanctuary - the best thing Turks and Caicos has to offer!
Had the very best time at this amazing place, so much more than "bird sanctuary" conveys, though it is that. We started with a wonderful tour around parts of the property that have been restored over years of hard work to create an environment where native birds can prosper, and they do. Our guide, Kimmet, was so knowledgeable and generous with the info! We sipped on homemade and healthy smoothies while on this guided walk. Afterwards we explored the coast and saw abundant and gorgeous sea life. Later we walked along the coast and watched turtles swimming around. All was capped off by a truly delicious and bountiful lunch prepared by Charmaine. The whole experience was eco tourism as it ought to be, and we came away with so much admiration for what these two proprietors are doing for the environment and for the people lucky enough to visit them. A highlight of our vacation!

Different from anything on the island
As you are driving there you ask yourself over and over, am I going the right way? Trust me, you are and you will be happy you made the effort to find this place. Kimmet and Char meet you right away and you can sense their love for this sanctuary; their story to restore it is inspirational. You tour the whole property and birds are pointed out, but be aware this isnā€™t a zoo, you have to walk to find them. Same with sea turtles which swim right off shore. Also an abundance of aquatic life in the differing pools. This is unspoiled T+C as I imagine it was before all the development and I applaud their vision. Afterwards, a wonderful healthy lunch was prepared for us and we were welcome to stay and enjoy the fantastic breeze as long as we like. While not for everyone, it gave us a glimpse of the raw beauty of the island and we were happy they gave us that opportunity.

We just finished a 2.5 hour visit to Kimcha Village Bird Sanctuary. Kimmit and Charmaine are incredibly gracious hosts. Kimmit gave us a walking tour of the grounds, including the reclaimed areas damaged from decades of both legal and illegal sand mining as well as the beach areas where turtles feed and play. During the tour we saw several bird species, including stilts, white-cheeked pintail ducks, and sandpipers, as well as turtles and jellyfish in the ponds. When we got back, Charmaine had a delicious meal of smoked turkey (which was amazing), pasta salad and potato salad waiting for us. Kimmit and Charmaine are incredible people who have dedicated themselves to improving the environment and creating a true getaway from the overbuilt resort area. They have done all the work themselves on this stunning place over a period of nine+ years. It is part wildlife sanctuary, part ā€œvacation from your vacation,ā€ and 100 percent worth visiting.

The couple at Kimcha Village are incredibly kind and knowledgeable of the area. They have restored the natural landscape and contributed immeasurable hours of hard labor to stock the ponds with wildlife and attract the native birds back to the devastated area. They prepare and host amazing, natural food in their tranquil retreat venue. Set aside approximately 4-5 hours to enjoy a walking 'safari' through the Wheeland wetlands and buffet. Snorkeling and witnessing the bioluminesence and undersea activity is available as well. An excellent destination and excellent company will be found on this bird diverse oasis.

After reading about Kimcha Village and what Kimmit and Charmaine have done to rehabilitate the beachfront and the wetlands in the Where When How magazine ( the winter 2023/2024 edition), we were curious and made our way over there.
We remain amazed and impressed. Their respect and love for what was initially a destroyed environment that had become a dumping ground and wasteland, through their hard work and vision of restoration, has become and is continuing to become what it was intended to be.
The areas defaced by thoughtlessly mining sand and then using the area as a dumping ground have been restored. Wetlandsā€”breeding and nesting grounds for birds, fish and turtles have replaced them.
The beach is now pristine.
The shallow areas are now a safe haven for fish and especially turtles. There are so many baby turtles! You can book a tour and your fee goes towards supporting their noble efforts.
You can even book a glamping trip.

This is a place like none other on the Turks and Caicos or other islands we have visited. Charmaine and Kimmit had a vision of transforming an illegal sand and dumping operation into an environmental refuge for birds, fish, turtles and all the creatures that now thrive there. They have succeeded amazingly and share their work through bird tours, afternoons of snorkeling, fishing , birding, or just relaxing, and amazing meals. They are experts on the wildlife snd we saw five life birds on our guided walk. The space is beautifully reclaimed, and they honor their vision by keeping this as a true refuge without the typical crowds, music, and partying found elsewhere. If you want to see and learn about the wildlife and enjoy a deeply relaxing environmental afternoon, this is the place.
Andā€¦we even saw a rainbow over the water!
