An educational relaxing afternoon

What a pleasant surprise to find such a delightful escape from the monotony of modern day bland architecture

As a fan of the Miss Fisher tv series I had been meaning to visit when in Melbourne & now I have. RipponLea is fabulous 19th century homestead in the inner suburbs in excellent condition. Anyone interested in history will enjoy exploring this place & its magnificent gardens.

A very interesting guided tour of the house and a good walk around the delightful grounds. The kitchens, fern house, swimming pool area and lake were good to visit. Good contrasts with UK architecture and furnishing of similar period. Good coffee shop. Easy access from Central Melbourne by suburban train.

We took a very beautiful stroll around the gardens, opting not to go into the house. It took us a couple of hours to get around to everything in the gardens. Will visit again in the summer and pack a picnic to enjoy!

Rippon Lea house is now maintained by the National Trust and is a wonderful place for a day out. The grounds are beautifully maintained and are the setting for some of the Miss Fisher murder mystery series. The tea house is a step back in time and a great place for a light snack or a high tea. We saw... More

Visited this beautiful mansion on a Friday morning. Only a short drive from central Melbourne ($20 with Uber) very friendly people at the ticket office. My guide Brian was excellent with a brilliant knowledge of this lovely house. He really brought it to life. The guided tour took us an hour and was fascinating. Following the tour I had plenty... On a rainy January morning we set off to RipponLea. Our Gps had fun misdirecting us but we did eventually reach our destination. Parking is at a premium but we did find street parking not too far away. Nice coffee in the gatehouse before heading up to the house for tour. All in all I would say some very interesting... More

Visited here recently when a costume exhibition from the movie. "The Dressmaker" was held within the house. Whilst a truly impressive exhibition I think it detracted from the historical character of the house. The charm and features of the house were subjugated to the spectacular nature of the costumes. Hard to differentiate between the guides/volunteers associated with the house and... More

We visited this National Trust property first 15 years ago, so were due for another visit, this time with friends. As it turned out, it was the last few days of "The Dressmaker" costumes exhibition. Probably not as exciting to me and my friend, even though we think we are SNAGs, but my wife and his wife were entranced( the... More

If you loved the film 'The Dressmaker' you need to visit Rippon Lea house to see the exhibition full of the gorgeous costumes worn by Kate Winslet and the cast. The exhibition has been well put together and is great value at $20 per adult (National Trust members $17). Make sure you take some time stroll around the beautiful gardens... More
