With over 250 mountains of almost 2000 meters high, including the 2469 meters Galdhopiggen, Jotunheimen offers nature at its peak. Hike, bike, climb or ski. Flow with rivers and listen to waterfalls. Camp wild and free, spend the night sleeping inside the park's wooden huts, cabins and lodges and hotels. In the Home of the Giants you touch the sky walking over the famous Besseggen ridge. Fly with eagles standing on top of the mighty Galdhopiggen or just lie on your back in the lush meadows of this natural beauty embraced by picturesque Lom, the green slopes of Gudbrandsdalen, traditional Valdres, the waters of the Sognefjord and the eternal ice of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. So watch and be watched by the abundant wildlife. Experience the freedom, beauty, Zen and mystique of Europe's wildest nature. Come, meet the seasons and listen to the heart of Norway, beating in Jotunheimen. Jotunheimen National Park, the heart of Norway beats between Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim.

Some of my friends and I decided to go here early September in 2010 to trek the Basseggen trail. Some said we were crazy as it was snowing in the mountains the week before. It turned out to be special day weather-wise to a point where there were running extra boat trips from Gjendesheim. What we got was an unforgettable... More

A few friends and I decided to trek the Besseggen trail and it was nothing short of spectacular. Please be warned that when they say that it is a tough hike that takes about 8-10 hours, they are absolutely right. Unless you're a truly experienced hiker, this hike will take its tolls on you. However, please don't let that discourage... More

I have been hiking in Jotunheimen in September for a few days and it is definitely a hike to do for all nature-lovers. We started from the North-West part of the park and headed South-East to Besseggen Ridge. We wild-camped there and there was no problems finding a spot with a stunning view. And the view around Besseggen is totally... More

My wife and I and our two teenagers completed the Bessengen ridge hike - we did the Gjendesheim – Memurubu direction as the boats for the early hours were already reserved (you get a deli style ticket at the boat). It took our teenagers 6 hours and took us about 7 hours. It is a beautiful and fantastic hike. The... More

In planning possible hikes to take with the family in Norway, I searched for "comparisons" between these two famous treks and didn't find many; so here's my contribution. Difficulty: Trolltunga is longer and harder. The first two ascents in Trolltunga are steeper and longer than the one in Besseggen (we did Memurubu-Gjendesheim direction). The second ("ridge") ascent in Besseggen is... More

Amazing views, vistas, and waterfalls. We first approached over the ridgeline and departed through the valley. Both were AMAZING!

Great walk in Jotuheimen national park with magnificent views over the park. Easily reachable from Skabu, toll of 100 NOK to pay for the entry. Easy walk to an old falconnery that can be done with low age children. We saw 2 groups of reindeers!!! Can see how falconers were catching Falcons in the 17th century.

Driving throughout Norway in a camper this was one of the most expected attraction in Norway. We are in late fourties with 2 children of a older teenage age, we like physical activity - skiing, biking, some lighter hikes etc. So Besseggen, marked as Medium difficulty was a clear choice for us. We slept in a camper at the parking... More
