We recently visited this winery and were able to tour the property. The setting is beautiful and the drive up the hill is gorgeous. The tour was excellent. Our guide Matilde was extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer questions along the way. The wine itself is delicious and a great representation of the location and region. Award winning wine and a beautiful location, what could be better!

This was a return visit for some members of our family who liked it a lot when they visited the first time a few years ago. We came here for lodging and as a base for visiting nearby towns. We did not visit the winery or take a winery tour/tasting. The castello itself is loaded with quintessential Tuscan charm. The setting is so peacefully quiet and with beautiful views and it was a pleasure to take walks around the grounds and vicinity to enjoy the serenity. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had charming decor that was well suited to the buildings. The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and had all the modern amenities of a hotel. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Some reviews on TripAdvisor have mentioned a problem with ants/insects in the rooms. There were a few ants on the floor in my bathroom; it was far from an infestation and I just made sure to keep my personal items off of the floor in the rooms. My room had two luggage racks so this was easily accomplished. The swimming pool was clean and appeared well maintained. We ate dinner at Bar Ucci on the premises the first night and we were so delighted by the experience we returned the next night. I wrote a separate TripAdvisor review of Bar Ucci but to summarize: friendly, charming service from Michelangelo, and delicious, satisfying basic Tuscan food at cheap prices. Based on this experience, I would not hesitate to return. If they can get the ant problem completely resolved, then it would be even nicer.

We did arrange an individual tour, we were group of 4 people which gives more possibilities to raise the questions. the tour includes the process explanation for wine and also olive production. The tour itself took one hour and at the end there was aprox 30 min of Wine testing. Wine testing was on the terrace with nice atmosphere . Also we had an possibility to taste their own olive oil, own baked bread and on vinegar At the end of the tour we were please to buy few bottle of the wine for the good price ,

The BEST excursion of our 14 days in Italy was this cooking class with Giovannella Stianti the proprietor of Castello di Volpaia. We were so fortunate to have met this lovely person . So interesting, kind, patient and talented. She shared so much more than just cooking with us . We learned of the origins of the food, her village, her delicious wines, her ancestry. She made us feel a part of her family. The class is hands on with preparation of several courses . On this day, we were so very lucky to just have the 3 of us , me, my son, my daughter, as part of her class . The meal we prepared was delicious, but the creme de la creme was enjoying our meal with her . Outside in the beautiful country side enjoying the food, the wine and most treasured conversation. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this class

Completely worth the long and winding drive up! The picturesque village that maintained its historical charm was a welcome change from other more modern wineries. Tony was a fabulous guide who managed to both entertain and educate us the entire time. We of course bought many bottles of wine after the tasting, but also 3 bottles of their special vinsanto!
