I really enjoyed this stop. A nice boardwalk is there to help visitors see the area. Very diverse plants growing all around.

We've travelled extensively and this area is not quite up to Yellowstone Park standards, but interesting nonetheless. If you're doing an island drive, it is definitely worth going to. There are paths to hike around--though not extensive. Also, there are picnic tables and restrooms. What...More

Like a lot of attractions on the island, we were 2 of only very few people there, which is great for getting photos and not feeling rushed. Something about being there reminded me of the movie Labyrinth, haha! I've never seen geological features like that...More

Nothing special, but it's free. You walk around the furnas on a dirt path. It's well laid-out, but only takes about 15 minutes to walk around. It's close to Algar do Carvao, so you can easily fit this in on the way there. The weather...More

This geothermal area has a walkway around it that allows for excellent viewing of the gas vents and the small frog pond. Entrance is free.

This a short hike to view steam vents in an active geologic area. While not stupendous it is interesting and worth seeing if you have never seen steam vents. The hike takes only about 30 minutes.

We came here on a great day, weather wise. The hike around the Furnas is nice more for the surrounding scenery than the actual furnas. There aren't geysers or anything, but simply steam coming out of the ground. We did enjoy our walk around them...More

"Furnas" are a staple of the Azores. You can find a lot more in São Miguel, but this one in Terceira has a special quality. You walk around, see nature, smell the fumes and have lots of laughs when you fall in the mud.

The day was cloudy and overcast, but during a break in the weather, we were able to take this short hike. It's well set up, and the information panels are helpful. Worth a visit.

It's free and part of the history of these islands. The path around the top is extremely well maintained. It has interesting views and is worth the visit if you are already in the area.
