Woaw what a place! Rescued at the very last minute by one hero!

It was an old derelict part of the historic little town, the kind of grey crumbling medieval quarter. Unloved... and ready to be torn down for new parking (YIKES). Fortunately ONE passionate local gentleman saw it's potential, lobbied and battled until the Walloon region stepped in with a full renovation of the whole cobbled lot. And what a beauty it... More

This "hospital" is a time capsule frozen in time that is as important from a history point of view as the one in Beaune but much less known and thus much less visited, which is a shame. Short drive from Brussels but very much worth it.

Excellent in situ museum. Had a visit with a few students for a guided tour in English. Totally recommend this beautifully renovated historical first hospital in Europe!

One of the jewels of Belgium for sure. You just can't imagine what you will find inside. The architecture, the richness of collections and ... the Chapel! Don't miss it!

If I were teaching in school, I would have definitely included a visit to this hospital into a school program. The museum includes not only a big collection of various medications, cans, creams etc, but a real rooms where people were cured, where they were praying, where the nurses were living, cooking, eating. You will learn how they kept the... More

Wonderful museum covering all aspects of life for the poor of Lessines if they had the misfortune to need hospital care. Lovely staff who are interested in you and your experience. Great cafe in the courtyard, a lovely place to sit and eat on a fine day. If you are in Belgium make the effort to visit, its worth it.

We visited as part of a large party, the guides were very knowledgeable and made the visit very interesting. It was not easy for the disabled members of our party to get everywhere, but the lift made it possible for them to see most things. They had little piles of stools for you to sit on whilst listening to the... More

When you are accompanied by a guide when visiting the museum you will become overwhelmed by teh detailled histories. In our situation teh guideexplained to much and went to far in detail, but you are not obliged to stay interessted of course. The restaurant was fine and the service was OK.

This is a gem hidden away in the small town of Lesssines, the tour around the former hospital, which takes around 2 hours, at your own pace, shows how things were over a 700 hundred year period. Medicines, Implements, and Techniques, they make your eyes water. Listening wands are provided, with English, French or Dutch available for an explanation during... More
