The views are dramatic and beautiful of the lake in the clouds in the surrounding mountains and flocks of egrets! If you're in the region or even staying in town, it's worth exploring the lake a little bit. At least be sure to get a good view! It is quite spectacular and I know people have swam in the lake... More

We got two guys (who we met in one of the coffee shops) to drive us up the mountains on the back of their motorbikes to Pantan Terong. There's a big viewpoint (with a "terrace") that has spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. It's not a long ride, the roads are good and it's possible by foot... More

I was staying in Takengon for work and ventured down to the lakeside to see the lovely homes on the lake and their bridges out onto the lake and fishing boats. One can reach this place via Banda Aceh or Medan. I have brought my bicycle from Medan to Kutacane located in Aceh Tenggara and then cycled to Blangkejeren before reaching Takengon where Danau Lut Tawar located. Lake Lut Tawar is within the valley surrounded by mountains, hence its called 'Lut". The lake is beautiful, the view from the top we could see the beauty of the lake. residents clear water used for daily needs. there is also a hydroelectric power plant.

We where there in juli during Ramadan, and got a nice fried rice with egg in the hotel Renggali at the border of the lake, a few km from Takengon. This is a beautiful lake. Travelled from Banda Aceh. Very hospitable people. Walked around lake. Lots of activities around lake. Special coffee, raw egg in coffee, condensed milk. Very delicious.
