Pleasant trail from Highway 1 goes through some open land, then leads down through a grove of Eucalyptus trees and tends near the mouth of the Big Sur River. Great views from the headlands and various points along the shoreline.

Moderate to Strenuous but a great hike overall. We have done this hike 3 times now and the scenery is breathtaking. This last visit, while on the Bluffs Trail we witnessed a few dolphins at play. The views of the ocean is an awesome sight....More

Pros: *easy trail and flat *trail ends on the beach *purple sand (see attached pic) *saw ppl w boogie boards and paddle boards Cons: *don't expect to see big redwood trees. The vegetation is a bit more arid.
