It is easy to miss the trail head so be on lookout for a green gate on the ocean side between Nepenthe and Julia Pfeiffer State park entrance. Cars parked alongside the highway are the best sign for this trail as there are no information sign for it. Go through the green gate for half mile downhill path to the... More

I went two days in a row. Earlier in the morning meant no people!! I sat for over an hour with this spectacular place all to myself watching otters hunt, eat, and interact. Simply amazing! The otters are well aware of people so be quite and move slowly if you want to see them. I got some amazing pictures of... More

The hike down the old road to the cove from Highway 1 is well worthwhile. While there is a climb coming back to the highway, it's an easy hike due to the steady grade of the old road, there are two places to view the ocean -- a left fork takes you through a short tunnel to a protected cove,... There is a trail if you cross the street in the opposite direction and head toward the red woods. You'll find yourself upon a cascading waterfall and magical vistas overlooking the rocks and streams of the red woods.

Glad we were able to find this place with the help of various web sites including TA. There are no indications what is down this dirt, winding road, other than the cattle fence. If you trek down, down, down, down this road, remember you have to trek back up. Once you get towards the fork, the left takes you to... More

this one is easily missed! We passed by and saw many cars parking alongside the highway and there were no sign of any attractions but a path and people walking up. We asked and followed the directions as told. Walking all the way down and to the bridge on the left thru a tunnel is the cove. It is beautiful!... More

First time hiking to Partington Cove and I enjoyed it. Fairly easy to find, just six miles past Nepenthe and pull off to the side of the road, you'll likely see a group of cars already parked by the trail entrance. No signs to indicate what the trail leads to. Bring plenty of water and be prepared for a strenuous... More

I loved this. The bluest of coves, with crashing waves and jagged rocks. The walk down is just right, and has a cool bridge and tunnel. Be careful on the rocks - and look out for Condors on the cliffs above the road - we saw a pair.

Short hike (1/2 mile one way) down the road and you will see old docking place. Very easy hike for anybody, recommend for kids and also, don't forget to turn to the beach after the cave - it is nice and quiet. There is no parking place or any signs. The pullout is just 2 miles north of the Julia... More
