Very informative tour about how the cacao trees produce the beans, fermenting the cacao vegetable, fermenting the beans, roasting the beans and finally making the chocolate. Also great information about the history of cacoa production in the area. The finished chocolate made was fantastic. We were the only group there at the time which I thought was great.

You think you know chocolate? Take the tours here at Cacao Trails and you will get up close and intimate with your good friend chocolate. Guides are very passionate about both the chocolate and the culture in the area. And you will learn to see the mosquito in a new, appreciated light. Highlight for sure is making chocolate from the... We stumbled across this place while heading to the beach one day--and we a so glad that we stopped. A wonderful tour through the jungle, followed by a chocolate-making demonstration, pretty much made our day. WONDERFUL guides. In fact, this was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. Highly recommended.

This was a very good trip from our cruise ship at Limon. The gardens are great with a wide range of native plants, the forest trails are very interesting, we saw howler monkeys high in the trees above the sugar cane and a sloth near the chocolate exhibits. The chocolate demonstration was very interesting and the results quite delicious. Makes... More

We enjoyed seeing the process of making chocolate from the plant to the drying, roasting, grinding and ultimately watching a young woman mix, roll and serve delicious chocolate. An added bonus was seeing the howler monkeys frolic in the trees. An interesting fact to learn is that the chocolate plant needs the mosquito for pollination. Call ahead if you need... More

We and our group of friends visited today a cacao plantation and factory in Limon, Costa Rica. Our guide Ilmer was full on knowledge, very friendly and funny. We learned so much about cacao plants, how they grow and even managed to witness how they make the most delicious chocolate in the world. We are crazy about chocolate, but this... More

My husband and I both enjoyed this tour a great deal. We sampled cacao throughout the process of harvesting, drying, heating, and then being combined with other ingredients to create wonderful chocolate! The tour is expensive, but we thought it was a good value, since it was such a small group and the guide was great at answering all of... More

Was in Cahuita, Costa Rica for the month of May for a Yoga Teacher Training and during our free time (which was rare) many members of our group decided to partake in a tour and on the this particular day the Cocao farm was the winner. Our tour guide was Ilmer who was very professional and thorough (also cute and... More

Even if you know how chocolate is made from seed to palate, you'll gain more insight into how the chocolate boom began in Caribbean Costa Rica and how this working plantation supports workers and their families. Very informative, very interactive (the final product is pure chocolate goodness) and very affordable. Definitely worth it!
