Description:

The Purangi Winery was established in 1986 the 37th winery in New Zealand...

The Purangi Winery was established in 1986 the 37th winery in New Zealand on land cleared from second growth scrub in 1972 by the Ecans Family who moved from Hong Kong and who were welcome settlers by the district in 1966 after buying land from the Harsant and Wigmore Families and then owning and operating the Hahei Store. The land now 60 acres was farmed running cows, pigs, sheep and goats then planted supplying the Auction Markets with table grapes, kiwifruit, passionfruit, garlic and fresh produce from the market garden. Later crayfishing down the Purangi River and then a commercial river cruise got started after the winery was established. In 1987/8 we opened awine bar cafe "The Buttery". In 1993 tea planting was undertaken with the establishment of the Tea Research Institute of NZ. When land was cleared originally organic principles were adopted and over the years many "Wooferd" and "HelpXers" have volunteered their help so that our products are made in the tranditional manner with the purest ingredients hence the company name PURANGI ESTATE LTD or "Purest".

The Winecellar in St. Kevins Arcades, K'Road, Auckland was started in 2004 and is now a popular city bar and music venue.

In 2009 we built a wood fired pizza oven and launched the PURANGI WINERY PIZZERIA which has been very popular - we produce many of the ingredients for our pizzas, making the basil pesto and pizza sauce and using a wide range of fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden.

Danny greets you with a 'show' about the history of feijoas that will surprise you and is awesome for a laugh. As a lot of travellers I think, we were looking for a free camping. And finally was the best experience we had in the Coromandel. We had a free testing and delicious pizza. We left with a bottle of feijoa liquor to offer to some friends in Auckland. They loved it!!

Stumbled across this place at night - we were all hungry as. The host looked after us very well and has some great yarns. The best oven baked pizzas, and the feijoa liquor tasting a real treat. This place has its own individual vibe. A must visit place if you are in the area. A memorable experience!

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place after walking around Cathedral Cove in the afternoon. Great environment for anyone with the tasting area, bar, outside seating, indoor seating, and all sorts of games (darts, foosball, ping pong). We ended up having some pizza as well that we both loved. Recommend to all!

If you are anywhere in the area at all..... Visit this winery! I don't even know where to start. The staff are amazing. The atmosphere is amazing. The food and drink is...... amazing. When you arrive here you want to head straight into the tasting room. In here they have samples to taste of all their wines and liqueurs. Not... More

We stumbled onto this place while exploring the Coromandel last summer. On reflection, it was one of the highlights of our trip. The owner has a running stream of banter that has to be heard to be believed. He could have missed his calling as a stand up comedian or commentator. He has a razor sharp wit and a true... More

The Feijois Liqueur is absolutely fantastic and a rare find in the world. They make wine and liqueurs of all kinds and everything is presented in an enticing manor and tasting room. It's earthy and electric and a really refreshing experience. XD

We do not understand the negative comments that have been made about this place. Or the people who put these bad comments did not go to the same place as us ? Indeed, this place is simply awesome. There is nothing wrong at all. The welcoming was warm and attentive. The tasting is really original and excellent. The bar is... More
