What a beautiful place!
Sep 2019
Beautifully preserved, steeped in history, and a fine place to spend a few hours. It's located overlooking the sea and you can see the town of Vasto in the distance. A lot of weddings are held here due to the beautiful place, but also there's ample parking, and attentive staff. The original frescoes are wonderful and all the archways held me in awe.

What a view.

Yes, this is another church but it's still a beautiful place to visit. You must visit the crypt with the beautiful frescoes. Simple architecture and beautiful carvings around the double front doors. There is also a cloister where you can walk quietly and imagine the monks enjoying the garden. Also you don't want to miss the amazing view of the Adriatic and a yummy gelato.

Spiritual place

Very holy place - tranquility and peace inside. A lot of interesting art masterpieces, especially the architecture. Nice view on the Adriatic and the sea shore. Good to stop and stay in a peaceful state of mind. We love it.

Ancient Abbey overlooking the Adriatic
May 2017 • Friends
This is a massive structure of simple design and an incredibly peaceful place that is inspirational and built on the site of a Roman temple Located on a bluff overlooking the Adriatic, it's surrounded by working olive orchards that produce fantastic olive oil.

The main church has massive soaring ceilings, while the lower church is filled with beautiful frescos and there is a beautiful rose garden outside.

A hill of peace and pray
Aug 2016 • Friends
Sited on a hill near Fossacesia, the wonderful abbey of Saint John in Venere is a holy site of art, peace and pray. The Passionist Friars hold now this olace and so you can hear the mass told by them. Despite the spiritual side, the abbey is a wonderful example of romanic and italian gothic style, that can be both visible is both the abbey and the crypt.
I do recommend to visit this special place!

an abbey well worth visiting
Aug 2015 • Friends
This is an abbey built on the site of a Roman temple. I find it the most beautiful church by far in this area. It's full of atmosphere and the grandeur lies in its simplicity and almost austerity.

A very special place to visit
Aug 2015 • Family
A masterpiece of medieval architecture, situated on a hillside overlooking the Adriatic sea, at Fossacesia, Abruzzi.
The Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere and the adjacent monastery are placed on a promontory with nreathtaking views. They were originally built, in the VI century, on a pagan temple dedicated to Venus (Venere), the goddess of beauty. Beauty is exactly what comes to mind in this place!

Nice from the outside
Aug 2015 • Solo
The church is is build in a very nice location and looks nice from the outside, but unfortunately is not very special from the inside. It's worth driving past or having a quick visit if you don't have e other things to do, but don't expect to spend too much time here.
