I have visited it before, but never the complete site. This time, took a whole afternoon, printed a map, and visited all the old buildings. Really interesting visit, with explanation boards along the trail. Suitable for kids.

Quiet and Impressive ! The beatiful acid water pond and the industrial ruins worth the visit. And is close to a fantastic river beach ! (Barragem da Tapada Grande). I Highly recomend a visit, in this not crowded spot (in June...)

Interesting place to visit. The mine has been abandoned since the 60s and left to crumble. Not only do the decaying buildings make great photo ops but also the landscape itself. Because of the minerals in the soil the rivers and shallow lakes are brown,...More

Worth a look about this large mine which closed in 1964. The sent the ore by rail to pomaro on the guadiana and then down to Ayemonte or Villa Real de Sao Antonio to be shipped to England, polluting the whole rive in the process.
