Another great memorial dedicated to a branch of the service. Well worth the visit and on the route to all the others. Must see.

It's a well designed memorial set on the lake's edge near the Carillon, and I was delighted to see it, as one doesn't hear too much about the merchant navy folk who suffered huge losses in both world wars, not to mention others.

It is often over looked that during all wars Merchant Seaman have given their lives to ensure that supply chains are kept going both to Australia and to the troops. It is great to see this memorial remembers those who have fallen. Grab a bike and bike around the lake - this is also close to The Carillon and Cadman's... More

It's quite apt that a naval memorial is by the water. It's not the sea but Lake Burley Griffin is as close as you'll get in Canberra. This memorial is easily found on a walk around the lake and worth stopping here for a few moments to consider the contribution that the Merchant Navy has always provided in time of... More

Better if this memorial were a HMAS Harman or at Jervis Bay. Maybe the Commr for War Graves should be review this memorial.

A smaller memorial near the lake, close to Blundell's cottage.

I served in the Australian navy but I never saw the terrible things, lost mates, or suffered as these men did during several wars. Often wrongly forgotten, they plain a key part in keeping this nation alive when darkness covered much of the globe.

Everyone should stop and view this memorial. It is not just for families with a merchant navy history. More info from:- Canberra and Region Visitors Centre http://www.visitcanberra.com.au
