Hired a bike from my accomodation and went for a ride. Such a beautiful lake to ride around at this time of year with the autumn tree leaves showing their beautiful colours and dropping. The lake was calm and still. The contrete bike/running track well maintained. A great place for a short walk, or picnic.

Access to the lake is broad. The west lake area has more parking and picnic areas, while the southern part of East lake has lots of restaurants. Regatta Point also has ample accessible parking and attractions (visitors centre & National Capital Exhibition). Excellent paths around Lake Burley Griffin. Only down side is the lack of accessible toilets.

The lake in the centre of Canberra is absolutely essential to Walter Burley Griffin's wonderful design for the capital of Australia. It embraces everyday life, social activities and heart of Australian politics in an unique way. It's also a home to many wild black swans and water birds. If you plan to visit Canberra, please leave time for an enjoyable... More

I walked all the way from the city center to the bus depot...following the lake all the way around, up and over the highway and then across the river via the bridge and again following the lake. This was an almost 3 mile walk and I was happy to find a safe walking path the entire way!! Additionally the views... More

The lake is artificial! Formed by a dam on the western edge, it is largely fed by the Molongolo River. The central part is surrounded by well-formed walking and cycling paths. A 5 Km stroll provides excellent views of Canberra's Parliamentary Triangle, the Carillion, the Captain Cook fountain and many other noteworthy locations set in a wonderful landscape. The landscape... More

The changing of the leaves, is a fabulous time to walk around the lake, great for photos, and there is a coffee shop and café on the way around.

We rode our bikes around the lake for the second time this year. The ride can be done in 3 sections and there is so much to see. All up took 4 hours with a coffee stop on the way at the Yacht club

Walking in Canberra is a lovely alternative to rushing about in taxis or ubers, I walked from the Hyatt Canberra through the parks along Lake Burley Griffin, across the bridges and into Acton, to coffee at a sweet little place next to an alarming but very interesting statue by Tim Kyle of a very large obese and worried-looking person called...
